Job Responsibilities:
Develop geotechnical engineering scope of services and fee estimates
Planning and oversight of geotechnical investigations.
Manage/review geotechnical field work performed by others
Assign, review and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests
Perform/review geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations
Develop geotechnical engineering recommendations and write geotechnical engineering reports
Perform project management activities including communicating resource needs, managing client expectations, planning and delegating work, management of project budgets, invoicing and backlog reporting
Manage client relationships as required
Manage and mentor junior engineers and geologists commensurate with experience level
Work as a team member within the office and across the business unit in other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources
Participate in business development activities as instructed by the branch leader
Required Skills/Experience:
15+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering
Prior experience with geotechnical transportation related design and familiar with LRFD, AASHTO and other local DOT required design codes
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Professional Engineering license in Maryland or another US State
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task
Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment
Confidence and independence, with a shared sense of responsibility
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Master’s Degree or higher in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering
Experience managing geotechnical services for design-build or other alternative delivery projects
Proficiency with gINT software and standard geotechnical engineering analysis software such as LPILE, APILE and SHAFT, OpenGround, Plaxis, GeoStudio, Settle3D and FoSSA, or similar programs
Prior experience providing geotechnical engineering services for agencies such as DDOT, VDOT, MDOT, PennDOT, WMATA, CSX, Amtrak, Norfolk Southern, or similar
Experience managing or supervising junior engineers
Other Requirements:
Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
The compensation range for this position is between $100,000 to $160,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
