GAP Solutions Inc Scientific Program Manager (Human Genomics) in Rockville, Maryland
Position Objective: Provide services as a Scientific Program Manager (Human Genomics) in support of the overall functions of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Seeking highly motivated and collaborative Scientific Manager to support overall objectives of Genomics Research Branch. GRB supports research in psychiatric genetics, aiming to understand genetic basis of mental illness. Examples include genome-wide association studies (for rare and/or common variation), whole exome whole genome sequencing, fine-mapping to identify causal variants, admixture mapping to explore population-specific risk factors, copy number variation, functional genomics studies (such as transcriptomics) related to the consequence of genetic variation, epigenetic studies to understand how environmental exposures interact with genes. Candidate will manage scientific and programmatic activities of assigned GRB portfolio.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Initiate and maintain communications with grantees and applicants. 1
Track and monitor timelines, milestones, requirements, and deliverables for grant awards to ensure that objectives are met. 2
Develop agendas, coordinate meeting preparation, and capture decisions and action items for internal government meetings and network meetings with investigators. 3
Each Council Round, prepare programmatic notes and record relevant genomic data sharing information for Genomics Branch grant applications. 4
Work with the assigned program officers to evaluate whether the submitted genomics data sharing plan is appropriate. 5
Work with Genomics Research Branch staff on Data Sharing and Management Plans for new applications
Contribute to the reviews and pre-council presentation preparations for Genomics Research Branch applications.
Participate in and coordinate with the NINH-wide Genomics Team’s programmatic activities relates to genomics grant applications
Contribute to the writing and editing of NOFOs
Attend review, scientific, in-house and various other meetings; provide minutes/reports and self-directed analysis when requested.
Prepare the Institute’s annual report on program activities; use scientific expertise in health research to identify common themes and cross-cutting science areas.
Provide advice and consultation to the staff about policy, programs, communications and strategic alliance issues.
Meet with upper level management on a regular basis to provide oral reports on the status of on-going projects and to receive new assignments.
Perform scientific and administrative reviews and analyses of applications/proposals from a programmatic viewpoint.
Work with staff to edit and revise grant proposals for submission.
Work products and documents related to management of assigned program portfolio within the Genomics Research Branch, coordination with the Branch Chief and Program Officers, with the NIMH-wide Genomics Team, and with the NIMH Data Archive. – Weekly
Work products and documents related to new genomic project study registration, including regularly updated information regarding status of study registration. – Weekly
Work products and documents related to monitoring of grantee compliance with registered genomics data sharing plans. – Weekly
Work products and documents related to preparation for each Council Round (listening to and taking notes for review of applications assigned to the GR Branch, assisting in providing feedback to applicants, preparation of program notes for applications for pre-council meetings, providing feedback on genomics data sharing plans). – Weekly
Work products and documents related to monitoring of grantee compliance with registered project sharing plans. - Weekly
Basic Qualifications:
PhD in Life Sciences with a minimum of two (2) years of postdoctoral experience in academia and/or biotechnology industry, with hands-on lab experience preferred.
Fields of study to include Human Genomics (Primary) and Neuroscience (Secondary).
Demonstrates expertise with Microsoft MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
Strong operational and organizational skills, with experience in managing projects and/or reports in a core lab or team setting and working with contract research organizations.
Remote work eligibility is supported by the program.
