POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sample Management Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the planning, designing and implementation of sample management workflows and developing and overseeing a robust processing/storage/retrieval system and facility that will provide quality control, efficiency, long-term stability and controlled access to samples.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, implement and maintain procedures/processes/protocols for sample receipt, accessioning, storage, appropriate access and dispositioning Assure compliance with all regulatory policies and guidelines as well as study-specific requirements around the handling and storage of customer and reference samples Responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily tasks of the Sample Management team. Sets priorities for team to ensure that goals/objectives are met. Oversee ongoing operations around the receipt, accessioning, storage, retrieval and dispositioning of samples Oversee activities of staff performing receipt, accessioning, storage, retrieval and dispositioning of samples; oversight may include direct or indirect supervision of staff Maintain electronic systems utilized in sample management including applicable validations Monitor sample storage capacity in the context of projected monthly and annual sample processing volumes and provide timely information to BAL management to allow risk of future storage constraints to be mitigated
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in life sciences, protein sciences, cellular/molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology or other related area is required Minimum of 3 years of experience in a biotechnology industrial or laboratory setting is required One year of supervisory experience. This may include leading/providing day to day guidance to colleagues. Experience working in a GLP environment is desired Training in and experience with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-) techniques is required LIMS experience as well as experience working with sample management software such as FreezerPro is highly preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of protein based immunoassays, running antibody-based assays, automated sample handling and assay testing platforms is desired Ability to create/revised standard operating procedures is desired Thorough knowledge of sample management process best practices is required Excellent communication skills with the ability to organize, present, and articulate ideas both verbally and in writing A professional presence and strong interpersonal skills for interacting in a courteous, timely, and diplomatic manner with all levels of employees as well as other parties/stakeholders involved with the company. Ability to communicate/delegate tasks/projects in a clear, concise manner that is easily understandable to all levels of support. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines with an appropriate sense of urgency Proficiency in MS Office suite; familiarity with electronic file management using SharePoint and MS Excel is necessary Ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding environment with changing priorities Attention to detail with demonstrated commitment to excellence and performance
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. May require viewing a computer screen for long periods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is performed in an office environment; on occasion, in a laboratory environment.
COMPENSATION SUMMARY:
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $76,100 to $113,200. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such a scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidates knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
