Assists a Maintenance Section Supervisor in overseeing work completed by the crews and contractors, which provides a safe driving thoroughfare within a designated geographical area. Leads the work of Transportation Maintenance Crew Chiefs, technical and clerical staff. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as-needed basis. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Assists in administration of the maintenance section.Inspects roads while in route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.Operates light and heavy equipment.Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems;presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team membersandrsquo; career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
