National Youth Advocate Program STEM Education Specialist in Rockford, Illinois

We are looking for a part-time K-12 Stem Specialist to join our NYAP Rockford team for our RYDS (Reimagine Youth Development Services) program.

Schedule: Monday-Friday from 2 pm-7pm, 30 hrs./week

Compensation- $19-$21/hr. based on degree and experience

Position summary

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Specialist will be responsible for assisting with STEM-related curriculum initiatives, programs, and projects for our new RYDS (Reimagine Youth Development Services Program) This responsibility includes goal setting, researching, planning, organizing coordinating, decision-making, and communicating.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with our Program Manager to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of STEM programs, projects, and initiatives

  • Designs, develops, and delivers development, modeling, coaching, and support to Reimagine on STEM programs, projects, and initiatives

  • Fosters partnerships in STEM with academic institutions, business and industry partners, community groups, and informal science institutions

  • Supports increased youth participation in advanced STEM coursework by creating STEM enrichment opportunities in elementary, middle, and high school age youth

  • Assists with incorporating appropriate curricular tools and technologies into practice, including modeling and simulation software

  • Remains knowledgeable of current state and national K-12 STEM standards and initiatives that impact STEM practice and integration

  • Assists Reimagine Program in securing appropriate instructional materials

  • Evaluates and improves the planning process

  • Communicates budget needs to the Reimagine Manager

  • Solicits and listens to input from staff, schools, parents, and community

  • Monitors satisfaction and dissatisfaction results regarding products, services, and activities.

  • Maintains an information system that supports the facilitation and monitoring of program goals and initiatives

Qualifications :

The STEM Specialist shall be at least 21 years of age and shall meet the both of the following requirements for education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with Illinois certification in elementary education, science, or mathematics subject areas.

  • Five (5) years of related professional experience to include three (3) years of successful experience in teaching science/math preferred.

  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.

  • Experience working with youth who have life challenges.

  • Experience with conflict resolution, problem solving, crisis management and motivational techniques

  • Familiarity with service area is preferred.

  • Applicants must be able to work independently as well as with a team of individuals.
