Job Description
Position Summary:
This Scientist III will play a critical role in the design and synthesis of organic molecules and polymers such as surfactants, detergent-like molecules, and PEGylated small molecule reagents. This role requires strong technical skills in muti-step organic synthesis, purification, and small molecule analysis by HPLC, MS, NMR, and other analytical techniques. This scientist will work in a highly collaborative environment with other R&D groups in the Life Sciences Research (LSR) division and other cross-division departments.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence.
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Advanced organic chemistry laboratory experience, and greater than 2 years of post-academic experience are preferred.
M.S. in Chemistry/scientific discipline, preferably advanced organic chemistry laboratory experience, and greater than 4 years of post-academic experience is preferred.
Highly skilled synthetic chemist in methodology development and multistep synthesis.
Proven record of consistently delivering excellent results related to the design, development, and optimization of organic compound synthesis as demonstrated by publication/presentation records.
Requires in-depth knowledge of synthesis and purification of organic reagents, chromatographic and spectroscopic analysis, documentation of results, and procedures.
Hands-on experience in using Biotage (Isolera or Selekt) HPLC, LC-MS, UV/VIS, NMR, FTICR, and other analytical instruments.
Expertise in the synthesis of surfactants is highly recommended but not required.
Experience in reagent product development or process validation preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot synthesis and purification problems.
Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Key Responsibilities:
Designs, plans, and conducts laboratory experiments independently in support of new product development.
Design and synthesis of organic molecules and polymers such as surfactants, detergent-like molecules, and PEGylated small molecules.
Develop and optimize methods for purification and analysis of intermediates and products.
Characterize intermediates and target compounds by HPLC, MS, NMR, and other analytical techniques.
Support test method and process method development activities including product scale-up and transfer to production.
Write protocols and reports, present data and interact with scientists from other groups.
Draft documents for production, testing, validation, and use of products.
Adhere to departmental quality and safety standards.
Effectively communicates results to project team members, senior leadership, and internal stakeholders.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Illinois is $83,300.00–$125,000.00.
