University of Rochester Supervisor, Payroll in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Organizes and directs the day-to-day operations of the Processing Group which is responsible for Payroll processing systems. Exercises knowledge of established guidelines, policies, procedures and application tools available to ensure issuance of employee's pay checks on time with no exceptions for all customers including University Employees, University Departments and government agencies. Organizes and directs training for payroll staff and user departments, as needed.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct supervision and coaching to ensure staff are working efficiently and collaboratively as a cohesive and effective team. Manages HR needs of assigned staff including, but not limited to: approving hiring decisions, identifying and providing training, engages in ongoing direct supervision, addresses personnel issues and actions, and conducts performance reviews.

  • Directs the gathering, processing and proper safe-guarding of all HR and Payroll information required for the preparation of checks for 30,000+ employees, faculty and Students.

  • Applies thorough knowledge of all University payrolls, including all University policies and terms of collective bargaining agreements to effectively execute actions and provide/interpret reports. Serves as the front-line point of service customer contact in providing information and resolving issues pertaining to but limited to Payroll applications. Provides and implements ongoing training programs for Payroll processing staff.

  • Assists Payroll Manager in serving as liaison to HRMS for Payroll data processing needs. Assumes management responsibility of Payroll in absence of Manager. Establishes processing schedules and coordinates to assure timely and accurate flow of data, review of edit and diagnostic lists, processing of file maintenance reports retrieval of other related data.

  • Serves as the front-line point of service customer contact in providing information and resolving issues pertaining to but limited to Payroll applications. Provides and implements ongoing training programs for Payroll processing staff.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in disciplines such as Business, Accounting or Computer Science required.

  • 2 years of related experience with demonstrated experience in system analysis, methods improvements and administrative data processing applications required;

  • 1 year of supervisory experience required;

  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Knowledge of payroll systems and software, and experience with Work Day or similar software required.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment required.

  • CPP preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $30.06 - $45.08 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
