University of Rochester Social Worker in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

General Purpose:

The social worker assigned to Strong Ties Young Adult Clinic is responsible for providing psychosocial assessment and treatment to individuals ages 16 and older who experience mental illness. Services are provided through participation on an interdisciplinary team designed to provide comprehensive community based psychiatric care. The social worker functions as a primary therapist for assigned patients and provides direct clinical service including individual and family therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and community outreach.

Responsibilites:

Provides direct clinical services to assigned patients, which may involve individual, family, and/or group therapy, crisis intervention, and diagnostic evaluations.

Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team involving consultation, treatment planning, and periodic care review.

Documents interventions, both direct and indirect, in the patient’s medical record in compliance with the Division, Department, and Hospital policy. Ensures timely completion of statistical reports/forms

Collaborates with family, social supports, community agencies (past and present) to ensure appropriate and effective care. Coordinates referrals and facilitates linkage to other appropriate agencies/supports.

Attends Division, Department, and Clinic level staff meetings. Ensures that Division, Department, and Clinic policies and procedures are implemented with regard to professional practice and patient care. Timely completion of time sheets, and other Hospital or Division mandatory in-service trainings and Health Assessments. Subscribes to maintaining a culturally competent environment by treating patient, families, trainees, and co-workers in a sensitive manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences. Participates in available cultural competency events and training appropriate to job duties.

Develops and leads groups for patients (and possibly family members or their support network) which focuses on issues and needs of the mentally ill population.

Provides back-up coverage for patient care, as appropriate and requested. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited program

  • Prior experience working with individuals with mental illness and/or community mental health

  • Experience with adolescent/young adults also preferred

  • Knowledge of mental illness

  • Ability to engage in person centered treatment

  • Knowledge/skills in various therapeutic interventions including CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing

  • Knowledge of risk evaluation and mitigation

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work. Licensure as a social worker, as defined by the State Board for Social Work, State Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services is required. If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 18 months within which to obtain it, unless duties will be performed under OMH then minimum of a limited permit (not to exceed 1 year) or NYS Licensure will be required upon employment start.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $63,003 - $80,600 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
