University of Rochester Social Work Assistant (Psychiatry) in Rochester, New York
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The social work assistant will assist the unit social workers providing services to patients and their families admitted for mental health treatment. As a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, the social work assistant participates in the development and implementation of the patient¿s treatment and discharge plan. The social work assistant is responsible assisting the unit social worker with overall coordination of the discharge planning process for patients hospitalized on Adult Inpatient Psychiatry units 29200, 39000, 39200, and Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry unit, 49000. The social work assistant provides social work treatment in response to patient/family psychosocial problems which may impede care and/or discharge. The social work assistant develops interagency relationships and mobilizes community resources on behalf of the patients and/or their families. The social work assistant will assist in maintaining the files associated with mental hygiene law in NYS by providing support to the attending psychiatrists and medical directors on following the regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the completion of legal status monitoring as outlined by NYS Mental Hygiene Law/Regulations and the Policies of UR Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Rounds on units to collect necessary legal status documents to be sent to Mental Hygiene Legal Service.
Assists in the support of inpatient psychiatrists with the court process as it relates to Retention and Treatment Over Objection. Follows the laws, regulations and policies of NY State and UR Medicine.
Assists the Unit Social Worker in the coordination of the patient¿s identified discharge plan. This may include, referrals, continuity of care, safety planning and/or assistance with the completion of other necessary discharge documentation.
Documents interventions in compliance with Division, Department and Hospital Policy, to include any safety plans or other documentation crucial to discharge planning and continuity of care.
Attends Social Work Division and Department Staff meetings, as required. Participates in activities of the Social Work Division including, but not limited to timely completion of time reporting and other Hospital or Division forms; Hospital and Division mandatory in-service training programs and UHS reviews.
Subscribes to the Departmental goal of creating a culturally competent environment by treating patient, families, trainees, and co-workers in a sensitive manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences. Participates in available cultural competence events and training appropriate to job duties.
May provide social work assistant coverage and back-up as needed during the absence of co-workers in the inpatient services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited school of social work (CSWE) required.
Prior experience working in acute psychiatric or behavioral health clinical setting or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Commitment to and routine demonstration of biopsychosocial approach to care of individuals and families preferred;
Dedication to delivering a team-based integrated model of care preferred.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $24.22 - $33.91 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
