Description of Duties

This is a senior paraprofessional position in the Monroe County Law Department responsible for the independent review, research, and preparation of legal documents related to various real estate transactions. This position differs from Real Estate Paralegal by virtue of responsibility for more complex duties and independence. The employee acts as a liaison between the employer and other parties. Direct and independent responsibility is assumed for assigned legal matters. General supervision may be exercised over a subordinate staff. The employee reports directly to, and works under general supervision of, a Deputy County Attorney. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

  • Graduation with an Associate’s degree in paralegal or legal studies or satisfactory completion of a regionally accredited paralegal training and instructional program with possession of a certificate of completion**, plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience drafting or composing real estate documents in a law office setting, one (1) year of which must have included title examination and/or title abstracting; OR,

  • Graduation with an Associate’s degree, plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience drafting or composing real estate documents in a law office setting, one (1) year of which must have included title examination and/or title abstracting; OR,

  • Six (6) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience drafting or composing real estate documents in a law office setting, one (1) year of which must have included title examination and/or title abstracting; OR,

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined in (A), (B), and (C) above.

    **Candidates qualifying under (A) above with a paralegal training and instructional program must submit a copy of their certificate of completion at the time of application.
