Due to continued growth, we are actively seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our Corporate Support team in Rochester, NY. As the Senior Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for the payroll process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations, and providing exceptional operational support. This role involves working with internal and external customers, improving payroll processes, and working closely with the People and Finance departments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately processes weekly payroll for team members, including regular, supplemental and manual checks, as well as; involuntary deductions to include levies, garnishments, and child support.

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations. Keeps updated on changes in legislation.

  • Prepares monthly union reports to ensure accuracy with the Union CBA and ensures payments are made in a timely manner.

  • Updates union fringe changes as required by the CBA for upload into the ERP system.

  • Address payroll-related inquiries and issues from team members promptly and professionally.

  • Processes new hires, terminations and personnel changes within the ERP system accurately and in a timely manner, while maintaining detailed and accurate documentation.

  • Assists with SOX and other compliance audits within the department.

  • Identifies opportunities for improving efficiency and accuracy in payroll processes and leads efforts to implement these improvements.

  • Assists in year-end balancing and reporting, analyzation of accounting reports, and GL Reconciliation of payroll accounts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of payroll experience, with at least two (2) years of in a senior role.

  • Proficiency in payroll software (Microsoft Dynamics AX) preferred, and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll best practices, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with team members in various locations.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Requires the ability to maintain and work with highly sensitive and confidential information.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.

  • Valid state driver’s license.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • No supervisory responsibility

  • May lead projects

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment with moderate noise.

  • May require light lifting.

  • May require consistent time spent on the computer and phone throughout the day.

Wage range: $28-$33/hour
