The Role

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Senior Computer Systems Engineer. The Senior Computer Systems Engineer is an integral member of the Assay Manufacturing Computer Systems Engineering team. This position will support a 24x7 high speed automated manufacturing operation and the associated engineering and maintenance functions when required to troubleshoot high level issues when impacting production. Additionally, the Computer Engineer shall focus on modernizing our manufacturing information systems reliability, process uptime, and capabilities.

This position is in Rochester, NY.

Schedule: Primarily A Shift; Expectation to cover off shifts as needed.

The Responsibilities
  • Provide production support to manufacturing which will result in lowering product cost, improving labor performance, cycle times, eliminating bottlenecks and improving throughput levels.

  • The individual will work to maintain and enhance our current operating platforms and work with our application development team to integrate new applications into the network.

  • Work with Manufacturing support personnel on troubleshooting of system related issues, especially related to networking, Servers, vision systems, and database interfaces.

  • Maintains clear communication with internal and external business partners regarding expectations, satisfaction, and/or quality of results.

  • Support of current networks and systems.

  • Work closely with the Computer Systems Engineering Team to identify and take care of network and server bugs.

  • Supports the implementation of new software and equipment and/or the modifications to existing to improve plant efficiency and performance yields. Examples include Implementation of new servers, VMs, storage and data center management for manufacturing systems.

  • Initiate and facilitate continuous improvement activities. Identifies new opportunities to increase system uptime and reduce business risk.

  • Manage storage for manufacturing data, including databases, VMs, and file storage.

  • Develop and execute capital equipment upgrades as required.

The Individual

Required:

  • BS in System Administration & Networking / Computer Science related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 2-4 years relatable experience.

  • Understanding of Windows Active Directory, Group Policy Administration, HyperV and Windows clustering.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.

  • Working Knowledge of Ethernet networks.

  • Working Knowledge of Databases

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a results-driven environment is essential.

  • Executes the validation process, including conducting design reviews, pre-validation assessments, and installation, operational, and process qualifications.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in an FDA Medical Device Manufacturing Facility with associated FDA and ISO regulations.

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, and warehouse environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples. Up to 75% of the time you will be, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $80,000.00 - $136,000.00 USD Annually. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time), and paid Holidays.
