Type: Full-Time (35+ hours per week)

Reports to:Vice President of Youth Education and Development

Job Summary

The Urban League of Rochester seeks a School to Work (S2W) Navigator, who will work on site at a Rochester City School District High School assisting students in to prepare to enter and succeed in college and careers. The S2W Navigator will focus on serving students who have barriers to workforce entry and do not have immediate plans to enroll in post-secondary education after graduation. Emphasis will be placed on 11th and 12th grade students who are over age and under credit. Services will assist students in exploring career options with career pathways, identifying careers that align with their interests and aptitudes, and developing a plan for entering their identified career pathway.

The S2W Navigator will work one-on-one with students to address the needs of diverse learners, serve as a positive role model, and interact with students and faculty to meet program objectives. The S2W Navigator will also provide groups activities such as workshops and field trips focused on career exploration.

Programmatic, evaluation, enrichment and counseling responsibilities are essential to the success of this position. The school to Work Navigator and local school district will work cooperatively to establish positive, sustainable student outreach for district students.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify and serve students at assigned school site.

  • Serve as a postsecondary planning resource for students.

  • Work and collaborate effectively with teachers and other school personnel to identify and meet the academic needs of students.

  • Positively represent the program and the Urban League in the community.

  • Implement and coordinate comprehensive programs for students that include and are not limited to career exploration, academic planning and preparations, college visits, tutoring, job shadowing, internships, and mentoring.

  • Conduct outreach and recruitment efforts, including program orientations and community presentations.

  • Establish and implement two behind the business opportunities throughout the year.

  • Design and implement a wide range of instructional activities, materials, programs, services and strategies in classrooms, seminars, sessions, workshops and summer programs for use with individuals, small groups and whole classrooms.

  • Complete and maintain program files, records and reports to track and assure successful program outcomes.

  • Participate in additional training as required for effective program operation.

  • Communicate with and engage parents and guardians to help structure the whole student.

  • Support other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Attend and support Urban League of Rochester events and fundraising functions.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, human services, or related field

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • Work experience with diverse families and community organizations

  • Excellent communication skills (virtual, oral and written)

  • Experience working with youth in an educational setting

  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct practical workshops and presentations

  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, Zoom video conferencing.

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Must be a team player

  • Ability to relate to, communicate with and work with a diverse population and understand the issues relating to such population

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication with problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when required

Salary Description

$20 to $23 per hour
