Responsibilities

General Purpose

Carry out experiments for recently funded grant for the development and analysis of a mouse model of leukemia. This involves mouse colony maintenance (genotyping, animal husbandry), tissue/cell harvest from mouse bone marrow, flow cytometric analysis, tissue culture, cell imaging, irradiation of mice. It would be advantageous to have ability to perform Western blot analysis, RT-PCR, immunostaining. Computer skills such as bioinformatic analysis would be beneficial but not essential. The ideal applicant is organized, observant, detail-oriented, and fluent in English speaking and writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out experiments as proposed in grant application. Under general guidance and with latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, performs research related to newly funded grant for leukemia research using the mouse as a model system.Carry out experiments for recently funded grant for the development and analysis of a mouse model of leukemia.This involves mouse colony maintenance (genotyping using standard procedures, animal husbandry), tissue/cell harvest using specialized surgical operations on mice for collection of bone marrow specimens. Technician will work closely with animal care staff and technicians for scheduling any necessary procedures on mice.The analysis of mouse cells will include, but not be limited to the following: flow cytometric analysis, analysis of cell growth, colony formation, and cell imaging.The technician will also perform irradiation of mice prior to bone marrow transplantation. It would be advantageous to have ability to perform Western blot analysis, RT-PCR, immunostaining. Computer skills such as bioinformatic analysis would be beneficial but not essential. The ideal applicant is organized, observant, detail-oriented, and fluent in English speaking and writing.

  • Recording of experimental protocols, observations and results. Working independently with only occasional suggestions in modifying, varying or adapting standard laboratory procedures to meet special needs of research projects. Performing analyses and scientific data reductions by using standard methods and developing modifications of standard methods to meet special situations. Searching literature for reference to technical problems involved in research projects; writes procedures; prepares charts, graphs and tables; and assists in the preparation of materials for publication.

  • Collects, processes, classifies and catalogs specimens.

  • Maintain lab inventory, order supplies based upon the budget

  • Supervising student workers. Teaches laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures to students and laboratory technical support staff; and counsels them on technical problems.Keeps abreast of trends in field of interest by reading professional journals and attending meetings, institutes and seminars.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers required;

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • In-depth understanding of mammalian genetics, cell biology, basic chemistry required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $47,972 - $67,161 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
