University of Rochester Research Data Engineer II in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The McCall Research Group at the University of Rochester is seeking a highly trained, motivated, and passionate Statistical Programmer to join a collaborative research group focused on statistical genomics and systems biology. The McCall Research Group works with a variety of high dimension genomic data types including, but not limited to mRNA-seq (bulk and single-cell), microRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, whole genome and exome sequencing, methylation sequencing, and Perturb-seq data. The Statistical Programmer will be reasonsible for developing, testing, documenting, and maintaining code that implements the statistical and computational methods developed in the McCall Research Group. The initial appointment will be for 2 years with reappointment based on performance and availability of funding.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops, tests, and documents code implementing the statistical and computational methods developed in the McCall Research Group.

  2. Responsible for optimizing and parallelizing code implementing the statistical and computational methods developed in the McCall Research Group.

  3. Maintains code implementing the statistical and computational methods developed in the McCall Research Group.

  4. Training other members of the McCall Research Group in the use of the developed code.

  5. Participates in weekly research project meetings.

  6. Writes reports, co-authors manuscripts, and assists with grant preparation.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Experience with multiple computer operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, and Unix), computer languages (C++, Python, and R) required.

  • Experience with parallel computing (e.g. MPI, OpenMP) and GPU/TPU computing or a willingness to rapidly develop these skills required.

  • Knowledge of Statistics and Genomics or a willingness to learn about these fields preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, including written communication required.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively across teams required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $77,216 - $115,824 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
