Job Overview:

Principal Scientist position supporting the research, design, and development of lens care products to drive future technologies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborative member of Lens Care Formulations team.

  • Perform formulation research and development to create safe and effective contact lens care solutions.

  • Lead the conception and development of technical methods and processes for establishing feasibility of prototype products, driving prototype into development, establishing feasibility of new concepts, and solving technical problems.

  • Innovate new ideas for lens care ingredients/products.

  • Write technical reports and presentations of data analysis to scientific and non-technical colleagues.

  • Serve as core team member or leader representing formulations group – providing technical expertise and support to project team.

  • Provide leadership to drive activities related to research and development of new product development within the scope of functional role.

  • Mentor and guide the work of junior scientific and/or technical staff.

  • Interact with other functions within R&D and outside of R&D to support new product development or maintenance of business activities.

  • Contribute to patents, scientific literature, and marketing support documentation.

  • Technical representative providing communications with both internal and external customers, as needed.

  • Maintain proper laboratory notebook and a clean, safe laboratory environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in chemistry or related biological science discipline will be considered; BS with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, MS with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience, or PhD with min. of 4 years relevant experience.

  • Proficient with formulating aqueous solutions and evaluating buffer systems, novel polymers, surfactants, and disinfectants.

  • Experienced with physical and wet chemistry techniques (pH, osmolality, surface tension, viscosity, titrations, and dissolution).

  • Experienced with operation and maintenance of analytical instruments such as HPLC, GPC/SEC, UV/VIS spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy.

  • Experience with Waters Empower software preferred.

  • Strong data management skills and working knowledge of MS Office product (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Experience with Global Document Management Systems preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work in a team environment.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For New York State, the range of starting annual pay for this role is $105,000 to $160,000.
