General Description
This position involves responsibility for the processing, analyzing, reconciling, and maintaining of financial accounts and records. Work is performed independently under general supervision from a higher level employee. Related work is performed as required.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
Typical Work Activities
Reconciles and balances operating budget;
Recommends funding levels for current operating budget preparation based on analysis of prior budget levels;
Audits claim vouchers and travel authorizations and processes for payment;
Recommends funding sources for unplanned expenses;
Researches bond ordinances to confirm that purpose is appropriate for planned usage;
Reviews and reconciles contracts/agreements, close out information using computer software;
Prepares and routes appropriation transfers, journal entries, claim vouchers, purchasing requests, and professional services agreements;
Prepares a variety of reports, narratives, and spreadsheets.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D AND
Associates degree in Business Administration or closely related field, plus two (2) years of work experience in account keeping, bookkeeping, or financial record keeping. OR
Three (3) years of experience as described in A.
