Summary Our full-time Prevention Counselor is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring programs aimed at preventing substance abuse, bullying, and other harmful behaviors among students. This role involves providing counseling services, conducting educational workshops, collaborating with teachers, parents, and community resources, and promoting a safe, healthy, and supportive school environment

Job Responsibilities: A. Client Services: Provide intervention services, including individual, group or family counseling, to individuals identified as "at risk" for substance abuse/use and related concerns. Provide outreach services to engage students and families who may be unable to access services elsewhere; Maintain client records as required; Conduct assessments at intake to determine each clients/student's individual needs; Develop individualized services plans for each client/student addressing all needs identified at intake, including appropriate support services; Network with other schools or agencies for client services and appropriate referrals; Provide case management services to all clients until the substance use issues are resolved or more appropriate services are identified and the client is successfully referred; Provide follow-up/after care services for clients/students as appropriate; Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with Federal Law. B. School/Community: Provide outreach services to school and community groups in the form of classroom curriculum, presentations, substance awareness presentations, and/or in-service to faculty or other agencies; Consult with school and/or community agencies as needed; As time permits, be available to the students, parents, faculty and the community at-large. C. Agency: Attend staff meetings and consultations as well as participate in case conferences; Participate in supervision with the Program Director; Compile data on monthly activities; Attend trainings and workshops to keep abreast of current substance use trends, techniques and for skill development; Prepare and develop prevention counseling/education materials; Any other task which may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum requirements for this position: A Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field is required. A CASAC, CPP, or other NYS recognized QHP status is preferred. One year of experience in counseling in a school or social service setting is preferred.
