Job Responsibilities:

  • Independently conduct research to include, but not limited to: constructing hypotheses, design and planning of research studies, data management, model development, conducting experiments or assessments, analysis and interpretation of research results, and evaluation of research techniques.

  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders

  • Disseminates and publishes research results in peer-reviewed journals, reports, meetings, workshops, and conferences.

  • Assist in the writing of grant proposals.

  • May assist in teaching classes.

  • May mentor and assist undergraduate and/or graduate students

  • May assist in managing research laboratories.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in human-centered AI, HCI, computer science, or a related discipline.

  • Applicants must have training in statistical analysis with knowledge of experimental design and cognitive science and psychology.

  • Demonstrates the ability to plan and execute research.

  • Knowledge of applicable research methods and analytical procedures.

  • Knowledge of publishing/reporting requirements.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

  • Demonstrates potential for original or collaborative scholarship.

  • Scientific writing skills demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications

  • Ability to acquire accurate, reproducible data

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in artificial intelligence and its implication on human communication. The position is open to graduating Ph.D. students in human-centered AI, HCI, computer science, or a related discipline. Current postdoctoral fellows with postdoctoral experience are also welcomed.

Job Summary:

Post-doctoral positions are temporarily funded and enable an individual with their Ph.D. to continue their training as a researcher and gain skills and experience that will prepare them for their research career in academia or elsewhere.

As a postdoc, the position performs mostly independent research, collaborates on multi-scholar research initiatives, or even may have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger research project or program, all while under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher. Postdocs disseminate and publish their research results in peer-reviewed journals, reports, meetings, workshops, and conferences. Post docs also train/teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.

We invite applicants to the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate at Rochester Institute of Technology, with a start date in Spring 2025. Appointments are initially for one year. The position may be extended for one additional year at the end of the first year based on performance and funding availability.

We are primarily interested in developing and testing frameworks for the use and practice of trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI) in communication and decision-making. There are also opportunities for applicants to lead projects and collaborate with scholars in Communication and related areas.

We are seeking candidates with strengths in artificial intelligence and human communication, human-robot interaction, and algorithm-supported decision-making.
