Mary Cariola Children's Center NURSE SUPERVISOR - SCHOOL in Rochester, New York

Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm; follows school calendar

Salary Range: $66,500-$76,500 per year

Pay within this range is based on experience and education

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the nursing team, filling in for the Nurse Manager when needed

  • Provide daily clinical guidance and support to the nursing team and school

  • Provide regular and consistent staff supervision, including completing required observations and evaluations

  • Approve time reporting for nursing staff including time off requests

  • ​Make necessary caseload assignments to department staff, ensuring that all children are receiving the necessary nursing service

  • Determine daily staffing patterns to ensure safe staffing is in place in all office locations

  • Ensure consistency and continuity of care

  • Provide NYS mandated programs and annual screening (including height, weight and BMI measurements) to all students

  • Facilitate NYS mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements

  • Document all health services provided in accordance with the NYS Nurse Practice Act, maintaining all current pertinent health data for each student

  • Initiate and document health surveillance programs as needed, recording and compiling aggregate student health information as required by NYS Department of Health

  • Compile all accident/incident information for presentation at monthly School Safety Committee meetings, completing reports as necessary

  • Provide professional nursing services in accordance with Nursing Practice Standards, the NYS Education Department and professional licensing requirements

  • Identify and assess students’ health needs, implementing services, and evaluating plans of care which impact student learning and achievement or safety

  • Act as liaison between home, school and community providers for medical issues; including visiting students at home as directed

  • Administer vaccinations to staff and students as needed

  • Monitor the general health and safety standards used within the educational program

  • Stay informed of student population issues and concerns

  • Ensure school health information files for all students are maintained, accurate and current (including IEPs, RS logs, MARs and Medicaid reimbursement)

  • Support the coordination, delivery, development and implementation of the School Health program

  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with school staff and administration, parents, students, medical providers and community resources

  • Identify and report school building safety or environmental issues which impact student or staff health

  • Assume a charge role and carry out all procedures established in case of student or staff health emergency

  • Participate as a member of the school’s multi-disciplinary team, interpreting medical data and writing objectives for the health and safety components of the IEP

  • Provide staff and community educational opportunities as needed

  • Develop and pursue individual professional growth opportunities (may include in-service workshops, graduate courses, conferences, etc.)

  • Collaborate with community partners in delivery of Health Education or services as needed

  • Provide on-site observations for students from an accredited Nursing School or other observations as assigned

  • All other duties as assigned by manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in nursing

  • Certified by NYS as a Registered Nurse (current RN license required)

  • At least 6 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

  • Be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing

  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities

Certifications and Trainings

  • Must maintain NYS RN Licensure

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED)

  • Registered Professional Nurse (NYS Abuse Course and Infectious Disease Certification)
