University of Rochester Mental Health Therapist in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health and/or dual diagnosis services for individuals with diagnosable mental and behavioral health conditions. The therapist functions as the primary clinician and is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, and therapy/counseling for patients and families. They will systematically and continually assess the patient’s behavioral health concerns and strengths in collaboration with the patient and family. These services will be provided across outpatient and community settings associated with the medical center. Services may be provided in the context of clinical service, research, consultation, or education. This role involves the delivery of primarily outpatient and potentially inpatient services for patients across the life course; the primary population is children and adolescents, with potential of providing adult services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health and/or dual diagnosis services for individuals with diagnosable mental and behavioral health conditions. The therapist functions as the primary clinician and is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, and therapy/counseling for patients and families. They will systematically and continually assess the patient’s behavioral health concerns and strengths in collaboration with the patient and family. These services will be provided across outpatient and community settings associated with the medical center. Services may be provided in the context of clinical service, research, consultation, or education. This role involves the delivery of primarily outpatient and potentially inpatient services for patients across the life course; the primary population is children and adolescents, with potential of providing adult services.

  • Documents treatment in patients’ electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations. This includes the development of (a) family centered, comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for patients with clearly defined therapeutic goals with patients and families and/or (b)specific behavior and/or training plans.

  • Participates collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide coordinated care.

  • Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with schools, community and health care agencies, as well as professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University. May serve on agency and community committees.

  • Maintains professional CEU requirements by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree from a program in a mental health field that isaccredited by the Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP), the American Art Therapy Association, the Commission on Accreditation of Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE), or another acceptable accrediting agency as determined by the NY State Office of Professions to be the substantial equivalent of such a registered or accredited program.

At least 3 years’ experience providing behavioral health clinical services to children and families with co-morbid developmental disabilities.

Knowledge, skills and abilities to provide behavioral health services to children and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ability to work effectively with key stakeholders across a number of different hospital and community settings. Flexible in approach and appreciates the demands of a fast-paced, constantly evolving practice. Can work with individuals with varying levels of need and complexity. Comfortable working with pilot and novel programs to create new opportunities for integrated service models. Must demonstrate commitment to equity and inclusion.

CERTIFICATION:

Requires NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist). If licensure has not been obtained upon employment, the individual has 6 months to obtain the NYS license.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $63,003 - $80,600 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
