Major Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, manage the day-to-day accounting functions and financial analysis for SSC partner auxiliary business units and supervise the appropriate accounting staff members. Prepare in-depth financial reporting and analyses and review results with directors and managers to ensure that factors impacting actual spending and revenue trends are considered. Specific tasks include: monitor year-to-date actual balances compared to budget; research and resolve variances; maintain monthly operating data to track budget in preparation for annual rate increases, budget scenario submission, and the final budget upload; and, prepare year-end projections at the end of each fiscal quarter; review results with stakeholders.

  • Manage the process for entries to be uploaded to the general ledger including: cost of goods sold; shared labor and resource transfers; payroll labor accrual; Visiting Chefs Accrual; Housing Inventory Summary; Inventory Transfers/Spoilage, and miscellaneous adjustments and posting corrections. Monitor balance sheet accounts for Dining and Housing including inventory and capital; prepare monthly reconciliations and research and resolve variances.

  • Monitor balances on capital equipment and capital project accounts and track capital funding requests. Serve as the key contact with the Budget Office regarding balances, funding inquiries and action items. Maintain the AS multi-year capital planning data used to make recommendations for annual spending/funding goals. Work with directors to ensure information reflects AS strategic objectives.

  • Work with SSC Business Analyst on designing financial information and visualizations that communicate relevant trends through sophisticated analysis, dashboards, and metrics using a variety of advanced technical tools. Utilize the presentation of financial information to members of the SSC and CTO leadership team to assist with ongoing management and decision making regarding the Organization’s finances and operations.

  • Participate in the management self-assessment process to test internal controls for specific dining and housing processes. Specifically monitor and test inventory controls in place for AS inventories, including Dining Services, Housing Operations, and Shop One.

  • Perform other duties as requested by management

  • Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of training/professional develop annually (or a pro rata amount based on standard working hours). Training must be applicable to the employee’s role current within the Controller’s Division with the intent of enhancing overall knowledge as well as the specific skills, whether functional or technical, required to perform successfully in the position.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Expereince:

  • BS in Accounting

  • Seven to eight years’ related experience

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and applicable experience. Preference given to individuals who have worked in higher education or the food service industry.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control processes

  • Experience with development and analysis of cost standards preferred. Excellent PC and MS Excel skills and familiarity with Oracle or another enterprise-wide financial application

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, and be able to interact with both external customers and internal team members with professionalism.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and time management skills required.

  • Must possess the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment; understand the various risks the organization faces and recommend practical and effective solutions.

  • Must work independently with minimal supervision and exercise professional judgment in carrying out all assigned responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

MBA and/or CPA preferred

Manage the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities for the Shared Service Center’s accounting team supporting auxiliary business units: RIT Housing, RIT Dining, Shop One and University Arenas. Prepare in-depth financial reporting and analyses for Auxiliary Services (AS) business units including review and analysis of monthly reports, preparation of financial projections each quarter, and preparation of annual budgets. Provide excellent service to students, faculty and staff.
