University of Rochester Lead Marketing Strategist, Central - Enrollment Mktg in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Director, Enrollment Marketing Strategy, this position provides leadership, support, guidance and strategic oversight for the University¿s enrollment marketing efforts. Leads efforts to launch targeted advertising campaigns to help drive positive perceptions with key external audiences. Works in partnership with the Director to manage the development and implementation of a comprehensive enterprise enrollment marketing strategy that promotes strategic enrollment that supports the mission, vision, and services of the University.

Leads efforts to establish, maintain and manage a student marketing advisory council, and a marketing subject library. Manages resources and relationships across the University to ensure alignment of enrollment strategies in accordance with the University brand guidelines. This role proactively identifies areas for greater coordination as well as partners with stakeholders throughout the University when tailored analysis and guidance is required. Leads the development of and assists with the rollout of a subset of marketing and advertising campaigns and materials, e.g., recruitment marketing materials, University¿s `always-on¿ profile elevation campaign to extend the awareness, position understanding and positive perceptions with global target audiences and targeted campaigns around reputation building.

A problem-solver, strategic-thinker and leader who translates big-picture marketing vision to implementable operational plans, and a dot-connector who understands how our marketing efforts work together to build our brand, this role ensures projects stay on-time and on-budget while managing relationships and mobilizing resources to meet goals. Provides counsel and recommendations to the AVP Marketing and Director of Enrollment Marketing as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Director of Enrollment Marketing in executing multi-channel strategies to support student recruitment goals. Ensures that all marketing materials and communications, including digital, print, and other media, effectively convey key messages tailored to prospective students and align with recruitment objectives. Conducts research on industry trends and student preferences, develops templates for campaign materials, supports the coordination of focus groups, and prepares resources to enhance outreach efforts.

  • Leads efforts in the creation of impactful marketing materials to support Admissions recruitment initiatives, focusing on digital, multimedia, and print content that resonates with prospective students. Builds and maintains positive relationships with key stakeholders, including admissions teams and other University departments, to align marketing strategies with recruitment goals. Provides guidance on messaging, visual identity, and the consistent application of marketing best practices. Organizes and facilitates training sessions and workshops to educate colleagues on effective marketing tactics, ensuring alignment with recruitment objectives. Responds to inquiries from internal teams, offering timely and actionable feedback in collaboration with creative partners to enhance campaign effectiveness.

  • Leads efforts around brand aligned storytelling aimed at recruitment efforts, working closely with Admissions, Social Media and Content teams. Responsible for idea sourcing, ideation, and partnering with writers on pitching and content creation. Also supports efforts to develop a plan to establish a Student Marketing Advisory Council. Helps recruit students to the council and organizes, hosts, and manages quarterly council meetings to test new marketing ideas and creative direction. Conducts informal focus groups.

  • Monitors and analyzes peers and industry standards to provide guidance for latest recruitment resource tools, trends and opportunities. Completes audits or assessments as requested to inform efficient decision making and scalable guidance. Gathers and synthesizes data; uses this data to produce regular reports to UR Marketing and Communications leadership team. Identifies themes among recruitment inquires and challenges to inform opportunities where guideline and resource updates are needed.

  • Consults with freelancers and agency partners, enlisted by our university colleagues, to ensure consistency. This may require representing the University Communications team in meetings and/or on committees for specific projects and providing guidance to individual units outsourcing marketing efforts.

  • Co-leads efforts to provide input into the University¿s global social media program and enrollment marketing initiatives to ensure coordination and brand alignment. Partners with the Digital team to advance digital experiences and transformation. Serves as a dot-connector across recruitment functions, ensuring cohesive brand alignment in look, feel and messaging, while looking for efficiencies of assets.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or related field required;

  • Master¿s degree preferred.

  • 7 years of relevant and progressive experience required;

  • 3 years of supervisory experience preferred;

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Experience in higher education or enrollment marketing preferred.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing content required.

  • Strong project management skills preferred.

  • Ability to oversee multiple campaigns and meet deadlines required.

  • Proficiency in digital marketing strategies, social media management, and campaign analytics required.

  • High level of organization and attention to detail required.

  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and written and verbal communication skills required.

  • Ability to synthesize data for reporting and provide actionable insights preferred.

  • Familiarity with CRM tools (Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar) preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to fast-paced environments required.

  • Strong initiative, proactive approach, and a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging required.

  • Ability to provide context and/or reshape material as needed in a fast-paced, high-demand environment required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $86,482 - $129,723 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job¿s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
