The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Performs complex laboratory assignments, planning and conducting experiments of limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Leads tasks associated with research activities and lab support for lower-level technicians. Serves as unit operations liaison to ensure compliance with departmental or University policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of University resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and proceduresResponsibilities General Purpose: With minimal supervision, the Tech IV will be responsible for carrying out experiments related to ongoing studies of cardiovascular function. The results of these experiments will be analyzed and used to generate manuscripts for scientific journals and grant proposals. This position does not supervise others, but the Tech IV will help orient and train other lab members. Responsibilities: Maintain animal colonies based on information provided by the supervisor. Perform sample purification; perform genotyping by PCR, perform gel electrophoresis. On a daily basis, enable and organize samples and reagents for genotyping purposes. Record and report data using established methods and discuss results with supervisor. Independently perform and distribute routine HUVECs, MASMs, and lung endothelial cell isolations. Troubleshoot protocols to improve outcomes; suggest modification in method and technique as needed. Perform experiments and maintain support to faculty member for grant period. Maintain laboratory notebook, analyze data, prepare summaries of ongoing experiments. Assist PI with laboratory compliance issues such as IBC, EH&S, Fire Safety, and UCAR inspections. Oversee supply inventory of required reagents; update supply inventory by completing standardized paperwork to replenish supplies, record items received, route packing slips and follow-up with purchasing clerk concerning errors and items not received. Using FileMaker, generate new orders Facilitate mouse tissue specimen processing and inventory to meet the goals of the research project. Provide coverage when needed to independently assist with laboratory maintenance and cleanliness as required; wash all glassware generated from laboratory experiments; autoclave glassware, lab solutions, lab supplies, and surgical instruments; clean tissue culture rooms following all established protocols; Provide general maintenance on laboratory equipment including troubleshooting, repairs and cleaning. Prepare common reagents (PBS, TAE, 70% ETOH), agar plates, and broth for general laboratory use in experiments. Using Excel, manage computerized inventory, MSDS, and data sheet records. Qualifications: - Associates degree (BS preferred) in appropriate discipline plus 4-5 years specialized experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to work in a lab team environment with a diverse group of people is essential. - Computer skills necessary for data collection include Excel, Word, and FileMaker Pro or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Spectrophotometer; water baths; various centrifuges; pipettes; thermocycler; water purification system; Biosafety cabinet; incubators; gel apparatus; PCR machine; pH meter; analytical balances; electrophoresis equipment; liquid nitrogen tank for cell storage; -80C freezer; digital imaging equipment.
