$16.49 - $23.08

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Regularly provides routine technical support for research activities and/or laboratory support. Applies full range of experience and previous job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs. Assists with the design of new experiments, multimedia sampling, maintenance, operation and calibration of scientific monitoring equipment for research projects. Responsible for general data collection and assisting with analysis, recruiting participants, and may support and assist other technicians.Responsibilities Position Summary: The technician will provide research support the goals of an immunology laboratory aimed at understanding the mucosal immune responses. As part of this position, the technician will participate in maintaining germ-free (microbiologically sterile) and conventional mice and work with the Principle Investigator (PI) to develop novel strategies to study mucosal immune system. This work will involve the planning and execution of experiments involving the use of mouse models. The Laboratory Technician will use existing protocols and will collaborate with other laboratories. Techniques frequently utilized include PCR, ELISA, and cell purification. Responsibilities: - Responsible for germ-free mouse colony maintenance including breeding - Mouse genotyping using PCR, RT-PCR or flow cytometry - Serve as interface between lab and vivarium; troubleshooting and resolving issues with rodent colonies - Participate in weekly lab meetings and relevant seminars, including regular meetings with the PI to review data, propose experiments and discuss analyzes. - Assist in the management of the laboratory's reagent inventory, including reagents necessary for day to day laboratory operations; keep research supplies stocked. - Oversee maintenance, management, and/or repair of equipment; coordinates ordering of supplies and equipment and trains people in the appropriate use of equipment. - Monitor and ensure training and compliance with Environmental Health and Safety - Occupational Safety Unit, Safety Training for Research Laboratory Personnel requirements specific to laboratory for all laboratory personnel. Ensure that health and safety practices are maintained in accordance with University - Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: - BS/BA degree in biochemistry, biology or chemistry with some research experience in a related field preferred. - Ability to work with rodents and human samples. - Ability to adjust research priorities as needed and be willing to present, discuss, and troubleshoot data with the PI and co-workers.
