Compensation Range:

$28.09 - $36.52

The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Maintains assigned vehicles including passenger cars, commercial trucks and vans by inspection, performing scheduled preventive maintenance and repair work.

Typical Duties:

Performs scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance work on assigned vehicles. Insures that vehicles and equipment are in safe and efficient operating condition.

Changes oil, lubricates, tunes and adjusts vehicle components to prescribed operating tolerances and adjusts brakes.

Inspects vehicle assemblies and sub-assemblies. Repairs and or replaces components of the electrical system, cooling system, fuel system, steering and suspension, and body, usually not involving extensive overhauling or rebuilding.

Replaces belts, filters, lamps and fuses. Cleans and waxes vehicles.

Determines whether repair can be completed in-house or should be sent out for service.

Keeps records and makes reports of daily work, service rendered and general condition of vehicles and equipment. Interacts with parts suppliers, vendors and outside repair shops.

Complies with safety regulations of the University and of local, state and federal agencies.

Maintains cleanliness of work area and ensures that tools and equipment are kept in good working condition.

Performs other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as directed by supervisor, including small engine maintenance and repair.

Qualifications:

High School education and 3 years auto mechanic experience with completion of related training programs desirable; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid New York State driver's license is required and must be eligible to obtain a NYS Class 3 license. Ability to operate welding equipment, weld and lift up to 100 pounds on occasion is desirable
