Goodwill of the Finger Lakes Facilities Maintenance Specialist in Rochester, New York

Provides maintenance and minor repair services for the organization. This includes, but is not limited to, general upkeep of Goodwill owned or leased facilities (internal and external), maintenance of all outside areas, grounds, walks and parking areas, and will perform cleanup tasks in compliance with Infection Control Procedures when needed. Contributes to overall organization efficiency and safety while working under general supervision. This position requires On-Call availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Facilities Supervisor with grounds keeping:

  • Maintains all outside areas, grounds, walks and parking areas.

  • Removes snow, as required and cuts grass as needed

  • Salt iced walkways and sidewalks

  • Rake leaves and remove rubbish.

  • Performs repairs to Goodwill owned and leased buildings and equipment.

  • Assists with the upkeep of the organization’s facilities:

  • Performs all preventive periodic maintenance on building and equipment, as needed, scheduled, or directed by Facilities Supervisor.

  • Performs recycling collection duties.

  • Regularly cleans designated areas of building including, but not limited to, washing windows, cleaning restrooms, vacuuming, and shampooing carpets, mopping floors and emptying trash.

  • Performs cleanup tasks in compliance with Infection Control Procedures when needed.

  • Able to perform basic plumbing maintenance/repairs, carpentry work, painting, and other building maintenance activities.

  • Maintains building and ground security:

  • Inspects assigned areas at the end of each business day and locks up building.

  • Assists with the movement and/or relocation of furniture and equipment at all Goodwill locations as directed by the Facility Manager.

  • Contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of the organization and department by performing all other duties as assigned.

  • Document all repairs using approved methods. Maintain records of documentation of all repairs and/or scheduled maintenance.

  • Use sound judgement to contact contracted services when needed for repairs as required.

  • QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); 3-5 years of experience; working knowledge of building maintenance, including painting, basic HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. Ability to obtain a 3rd Class Stationary Engineering License preferred. Must have a clean driver’s license and own vehicle.

    Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    On-Call availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays are required.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Communicates effectively with other employees of organization.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have reasonable mobility and the use of hands. The employee should be able to reach (onto shelves, into, around and under equipment and objects) with hands and arms.

    The employee should be able to climb or balance (on ladders) and to stoop, kneel or crouch (while working with, or on, equipment). The employee should be able to communicate effectively.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.

    For reasons of safety and effectiveness, the specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
