SUMMARY

The Employment Counselor is responsible for job training, job placement, educational placement, and job coaching for Healthy Moms program participants. Responsible for providing case management using a coaching model to remove barriers to employment.

STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: St. Mary's Campus - Healthy Moms

DEPARTMENT: Healthy Moms

SCHEDULE: Monday - Thursday 9am-2pm

ATTRIBUTES
  • Bachelors Degree in Human Services, Business, or related field.
  • 1 year experience working with clients in vocational placement or educational field.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, curriculum development, and training skills.

  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Passionate about Project Independence's mission and able to communicate the philosophy, mission, and values to internal and external organizations.
  • Possess knowledge of basic technology equipment and applications, along with a willingness to learn required skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program Management. Recruits, screens, interviews, trains, and supervises participants enrolled in the Project Independence Job Training Program at Healthy Moms. Conducts intakes and assessments to determine participant eligibility and appropriateness for Project Independence programs. Facilitates visits to local employer sites and post-secondary vocational/educational institutions. Completes written progress notes of services provided to participants using the electronic medical records database.
  • Program Development. Develops career and education plans with participants. Develops relationships and partnerships with community based organizations that lead to enhanced services for participants. Develops and facilitates trainings as needed including but not limited to resume building, interviewing, professional behaviors, proper work habits, socialization skills, proper dress and hygiene, work safety, and financial literacy. Attends all professional development trainings.
  • Career Development and Coaching. Connects participants to community resources to address barriers to education and employment. Provides career path guidance through career assessments, and training on determining and setting personal, educational, and career goals. Provides job coaching and specific work readiness training to employed participants. Works cooperatively with participant's employer to provide specific skills needed. Assists participants pursuing post-secondary education with financial aid applications and admission paperwork. Works as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team at Healthy Moms. Uses stage-based counseling skills to facilitate behavior change in participants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PAY RANGE: $19.00 - $25.75

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
