The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
The Curriculum Design Specialist I is responsible for assisting in delivering course content in person or through the web. This position will create online course content, troubleshoot problems, and record metrics about usage. The Curriculum Design Specialist I will work with students and faculty to identify needed technical information and pilot new materials. This position will develop and update detailed course syllabi and outlines, including resources and materials.Responsibilities GENERAL PURPOSE: The Curriculum Design Specialist serves a critical role for the Barbara J. Burger iZone, a programming and services hub for student innovators and changemakers looking to accelerate their positive impact in the world. At iZone, students are able to explore their ideas for social, cultural, community and economic impact. The Curriculum Design Specialist is a member of iZone's leadership team, responsible for the successful development of iZone's credit-bearing courses and their continuous improvements. The Curriculum Design Specialist also cultivates and develops curricular partnerships with instructional faculty and oversees iZone's enrichment programs and campus learning and development programs. In partnership with the Brand Manager, the Curriculum Design Specialist is responsible for assessing user research and understanding user needs to design innovative and relevant courses that help students build core college competencies in critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership, and that prepare them for a lifetime of innovation in their careers and lives. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: iZone Curriculum - With the Director's guidance, design and develop iZone's problem solving and innovation courses - Develop iZone workshops and class learning sessions - Make continuous improvements to iZone's courses, including CAS 160, CAS 161, and CAS 162, considering user needs in addition to academic, industry, and workforce trends - Manage the student curriculum team including their division and execution of roles, goals, and responsibilities, providing guidance and quality management; serve as advisor to the curriculum team's lead, helping them to develop the leadership skills to successfully carry out their duties; engage in weekly 1:1s with members of the curriculum team. Operations Management - Develop and maintain processes for members of the university community to register for workshops and class learning sessions in a timely manner - Make continuous improvements to iZone processes for registering for workshops and class learning sessions Curricular Partnerships - Collaborate with instructional faculty to integrate problem solving approaches, e.g., design thinking, systems thinking and community-engaged practices, into courses - With the Director, develop outreach strategy to instructional faculty at the beginning of each academic year from which to: - Cultivate new curricular partnerships Assessment - With the Director and Hybrid Course Instructor, engage in continuous improvement processes by designing pre- and post- instruction assessment instruments to capture the impact of the designed curriculum on students' learning outcomes - With the Director, engage in continuous improvement processes by designing pre- and post- teaching assessment instruments to capture the impact of iZone collaborations with instructional faculty Communicate faculty feedback to the Brand Manager to be conveyed in departmental marketing materials Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related area required - 2 years curriculum and instructional design required - 2 years related work experience, including 1 year working with minimal supervision preferred Required: - Strong digital and research skills - Curriculum design that meets accessibility needs - Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) - Exceptionally organized with attention to detail - Strong interpersonal skills - Proactive problem-solver - Program design skills - Ability to optimize organizational processes - Ability to work independently and in a team - Strong verbal and written skills - Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, equity and inclusion The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion to advance the University's mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create - and Make the World Ever Better.
