Together, we work towards equipping each student with the tools they need to become lifelong learners and valuable contributors to both their local community and the global society.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONALCHARACTERISTICS:Master’s degree.Minimum (5) years of proven experience as an administrator to include leadership experience as a school principal or district-level cabinet member.Strong foundation in teaching and learning and building leadership capacity.Ability to supervise, direct and evaluate staff effectively.New York State Certification as School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Promotes the understanding that the main role of staff is to help all students achieve high standards across the network and the city.Spends time and pays close attention to instructional issues within the network and city-wide.Expresses clear ideas of teaching and learning and organizational growth.Conveys the expectation that the work of all staff will be evaluated in order to provide support for ongoing improvement of instructional practices.Brings together different views of students, staff, parents and community members into a shared vision for instruction.Aligns all instruction throughout the network to RCSD and New York State standards.Supports principals with all aspects of developing instructional leaders and leadership capacity within their schools and district-wide operations.Works with the larger community (faith, city, parents, not-for profits, government, and other community agencies) to coordinate services and support for schools.Works within the Division of Teaching and Learning, Office of Human Capital, Office of Finance, Division of Administration and Supports to help schools achieve their school improvement goals. Coaching and Supervising PrincipalsWorks with the Superintendent to select and coach principals, and with the School-Based Planning Teams in the schools they oversee.Helps principals create and follow effective school plans (SCEP, SIPs, or Receivership Plans) with clear goals and benchmarks for learning.Makes sure that staffing, MTSS action plans, scheduling, and organization support student outcomes.Uses data from various sources to guide changes in instruction.Creates a system for professional development of staff.Incorporates effective instructional practices from within and outside the school.Keeps up with current research and adapts to social and technological changes. Maximizing the Value of Professional DevelopmentHelps form and develop the professional development team at the school level, including the principal, assistant principal(s), coaches, and teachers.Helps principals and other staff plan individualized professional development to learn more about best practices in the classroom.Creates ongoing professional development opportunities that help principals to grow instructionally.Gives tools, protocols and professional development opportunities that help principals and other staff improve their instructional knowledge to support all students' learning.Designs professional development modules that build capacity for coaches and teachers and aligns professional development at all levels with the specific instructional program taught to students, ensuring differentiated experiences to grow our staff.Continues to grow professionally by seeking new learning opportunities while fostering the development and growth of team members through mentorship and support.Participates in a professional learning community with the other Chiefs of Schools, the Division of Teaching and Learning and the Superintendent’s Cabinet. Desired Prior ExperienceThe ideal candidate will demonstrate:Experience managing others in achieving common goals including supervisory and evaluative skills, while fostering an environment of professional growth and development.Strong supervisory experience in leading others to achieve common goals, including providing constructive feedback, performance evaluations, and fostering an environment of continuous growth and development.A background in designing and delivering staff development;A comprehensive understanding of turnaround leadership, with the ability to implement effective strategies to improve organizational performance and drive positive change in challenging situations; andExperience in a secondary educational setting, including classroom instruction and leadership.
