Job Summary

The Urban League of Rochester seeks a GEAR UP Site Coordinator, who will participate in helping students in 2028 cohort graduate from High school prepared to enter and succeed in college. Works one-on-one with students, addresses the needs of diverse leaner, serves as a positive role model, and interacts with students and faculty to meet program objectives. These include increasing the GEAR UP students’ academic performance and preparation for college, the rate of high school graduation and enrollment in college and knowledge of college options.

Programmatic, evaluation, enrichment and counseling responsibilities are essentials to the success of this position. The GEAR UP Student Outreach Specialist and local school for district will work cooperatively to establish positive, sustainable student outreach for district GEAR UP schools.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implements identified strategies and timelines that are grade level specific to increase number of GEAR UP students planning and preparing to attend college and other post-secondary educational institutions. Assists schooled in promoting the goals of the program.

  • Supports students in the exploration of career clusters and selection of an area of academic focus within a cluster of study and how this cluster is advanced at the post-secondary level.

  • Work and collaborate effectively with teachers and other school personnel to identify and meet the academic needs of GEAR UP students.

  • Positively represent the programs and the Urban League in the community.

  • Assists students with college tours, ACT/SAT preparation and participation, the college application/admission process and obtaining financial aid.

  • Conduct outreach and recruitment efforts, including program orientations and community presentations.

  • Attend local and national GEAR UP meetings, institutes and conferences as needed.

  • Coordinates GEAR UP’s college awareness and access programs and services with other available college access programs and services. Coordinates activities with school administrators, counselors, and other appropriate staff.

  • Complete and maintain program files. Records and reports to track and assure successful program outcomes.

  • Participate in additional training as required for effective program operation.

Requirements

  • Work experience with diverse families and community organizations.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.

  • Excellent communication skills (virtual, oral, and written)

  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct practical workshops and presentations.

  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Zoom video conferencing.

  • Must be detailed oriented.

  • Must be a team player.

  • Ability to relate to, communicate with and work with diverse population and understand the issues relating to such population.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communicate with problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.

  • Reliable transportation

Salary Description

$40,000 to $42,000
