Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Project Management Consultant for the Site Wide Infrastructure and Public Realm elements of the New Murabba Project earmarked as the new modern downtown of Riyadh the capital city of Saudi Arabia. Being developed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), New Murabba will be a 20km2 mixed use real estate development including the planned Mukaab iconic building. The development will be built around the concept of sustainability, featuring green areas and walking and cycling paths that will enhance the quality of life by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and community activities. It will also feature an iconic museum, a technology and design university, a multipurpose immersive theater, and more than 80 entertainment and culture venues. The project will be situated at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads to the Northwest of Riyadh. The New Murabba project will offer a unique living, working and entertainment experience within a 15-minute walking radius and will have its own internal transport system. Job Summary:

The Project Engineer - Highways is responsible for supporting the Area Engineering Manager to monitor and coordinate all the design processes and Engineering inputs to Contracts and Construction processes for all Contracts related to major temporary and permanent road works across the New Murabba Project. #LI-AR2

Major Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of all allocated design and/or execution contracts.

  • Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations.

  • Work with the cost team to prepare cost estimates for all allocated Contracts or Work Orders.

  • Coordinates engineering activities for the project or assigned portion to ensure scope and schedule requirements are met.

  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to client, project and functional management as directed and as appropriate.

  • Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions.

  • Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements.

  • Submit timely and accurate data to project controls for weekly and bi-weekly reports.

  • Monitor the timely completion and response of Technical Queries. Raise trends and prepare Design Change Notices.

  • Review and ensure quality of consultant / contractor submittals.

  • Supports the creation of a project work environment which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree of Civil Engineering or higher and a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in design-build and design-bid-build procurement with contractors and consultants.

  • Familiar with industry standards and codes and demonstrated ability to understand and adapt industry standard design procedures.

  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.

  • Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.

  • Experience with preparation and monitoring of engineering performance and progress reporting (EPPR).

  • Experience in executing engineering in a BIM/VPD environment.

  • Knowledge of Engineering software applications as related to the pavement design and other roads design aspects.

  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems based on ISO:9001 standards as applied to engineering design.

  • Multi-tasking co-ordination skill while executing complex and challenging project /program execution.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.
