Job Title: Distribution Engineer

Job Description

We are currently seeking Distribution Engineers to join our team in Florida. These individuals will support power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects across the state. The work involves engineering calculations and design for replacing deteriorated cable, moving overhead lines underground, reconductoring existing distribution lines, and replacing aging equipment. Responsibilities include structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand calculations, fault current analysis, and coordination of protective devices.

Fieldwork includes site visits, visual inspections, measurements, and compiling field reports. Some sites require overnight travel, usually every other week for one night. Duties include:

• Conduct site visits and take field notes, including visual inspection, equipment inventory, measurements, sketches, photographs, and field conditions. Compare field data to base plan.

• Evaluate loading of various equipment components, such as transformers and structural loading of poles, to ensure a cost-effective, safe, and reliable design utilizing client specifications.

• Review and interpret design manuals and details from local jurisdictions.

• Determine and specify design requirements.

• Perform electric distribution designs using field notes per the Utility’s standards. Design and draft construction drawings using standard engineering fundamentals for approval by Federal, state, and local agencies.

• Prepare projects and job packages using appropriate software, including material estimates and material requisitions for the prepared distribution electrical designs.

• Review plans for proposed construction to determine impacts on the existing distribution systems.

• Develop solutions to existing conductor and structural clearance violations and issues.

• Develop final design plan packages for the implementation of proposed solutions.

• Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements.

• Attend bi-weekly (or more frequently as necessary) meetings with the project team on all projects/tasks.

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 12 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Riverview, Florida.

Work Environment

Work is performed at the Riverview office. The environment is flexible, allowing occasional work from home after roughly 6 months of training and proficiency. The team consists of a 170-person power group in Florida, between Maitland and Tampa. The Tampa office is a new 19,000 sqft space with amenities like a foosball table and shuffleboard. The team has a very positive leader and an engaged group. There is also a new office in Clearwater to which the individual could move after their first 6 months.
