Position Summary
The Department of Biology at UW-River Falls seeks a biologist with a background in Botany to support our Biological Sciences program Including Ecology & Organismal and General Biology curricula. Teaching responsibilities will include lecture and laboratory courses in Botany, Identification of Plants, and General Biology. Additional courses could include, Evolution, Plant Physiology, Ecology, or other courses depending upon the candidate’s experience. The successful candidate will be expected to develop additional upper-level courses in his/her discipline and to integrate authentic research into courses. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track undergraduate faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology. The standard teaching load is 24 credits in one academic year. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a primarily undergraduate institution and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, advising, and research. Opportunities exist for optional summer employment through teaching, research grants, internship supervision, and other funding sources.
Responsibilities
Teach courses supporting the biology program, including Botany, Identification of Plants, General Biology, and possibly one of the following: Evolution, Plant Physiology, or other courses depending on the interests and experience of the applicant.
Establish and maintain peer-reviewed research/scholarly activity.
Utilize and maintain the department greenhouse and herbarium to engage in scientific inquiry inside and/or outside of classes.
Serve as academic advisor for Biology majors.
Be involved in department, college, and university committees as well as community service where academic expertise can be shared.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biology (Botany or Plant Sciences or a related field).
Post-Doctoral or relevant experience.
Research experience in Botany or Plant Sciences, with a record of publication.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of effective teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate students.
Experience seeking and/or managing research funding.
