Description of Job

Shift Information: This position will typically work day shifts.

Occasional night shifts may be required.

The purpose of the work unit is to ensure a safe, sanitary, well maintained, comfortable living and working environment for residents of a 60 bed skilled nursing home and 50 unit domiciliary, staff and visitors. We strive to provide exemplary service to the residents by fulfilling daily and special requests that the residents may have. Exemplary care is given in cleaning and sanitizing and in keeping the resident rooms and their atmosphere clean, orgainized, homelike and safe. We need to provide the residents with the kind of service that they need and deserve.

Additionally, as a Custodian I you can expect to:

  • Perform daily cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of rooms utilizing procedures in use at facility with approved disinfectants, cleaners, associated chemicals and equipment

  • Perform work related documentation, use universal precautions at all times and use all PPE per job duties

  • Perform, as need requires upon the move, discharge, or death of a Resident, cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing assigned work area per procedures in use at Facility by utilizing approved disinfectants, cleaners, associated chemicals, and equipment

  • Handle, sort, load, unload, fold, assign, iron, repair, mend, label and distribute Residents laundry and Facility linen

  • Utilize approved disinfectants, cleaners, and detergents, bleaching agents, soft/sour agents, spotters, and associated chemicals

  • Understand and follow procedures in Universal Precautions as well as the essential programming of all Laundry Equipment

  • Performs project floor work consisting of scrubbing, stripping, waxing, sealing, buffing and burnishing of hard floor surfaces. In addition perform spot cleaning, shampooing, extracting and bonnet cleaning of carpets floors by use of appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment established and provided by Facility

  • Cleans and service equipment, maintain assigned housekeeping closets and carts, supplies, stock levels, and chemical labeling requirements

  • Sweep and clean facility smoking area and associated walkways as necessary

  • Safety moves furniture, appliances, supplies, ect. Manually and by use of available equipment

  • Replaces light bulbs, assist with minor building repairs and snow removal when needed. Drive agency vehicles when transporting furniture, gathering supplies on campus or when making purchases from local supply companies. Perform work related documentation, use universal precautions at all times and use all PPE per job duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only:

Six (6) months of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to

this position

Preferred qualification:

  • Experience working in a long term care/assisted living environment

  • Experience doing laundry as a previous job duty

  • Flexibility with scheduling needs

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Subject to Call Back

  • Additional credit given for relevant state experience

Conditions of Employment:

  • CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons): CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)

  • Work evenings, weekends, holidays, split shifts

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.

  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach throughout an eight hour work shift

  • Ability to dispose of hazardous waste & assist in emergency clean-up

  • Travel: Will be attending trainings with Environmental/Operations Management.

  • This position is considered essential services, which means the employee is required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare to residents.

  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Required to dispose of Hazardous waste to proper location within facility.

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
