Boehringer Ingelheim Principal Statistician with focus on Non-Clinical Research & Development in Ridgefield, Connecticut

The Position

Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization with more than 500 employees within the Human Pharma Business Unit. Working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim and external vendors we combine methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise to drive smart, timely and confident decision making at every stage of drug development, approval, and access.

Being part of the global function Therapeutic Area and Methodology Statistics, you work in the Center of Excellence Research & Development Statistics and support drug discovery research and development by providing strategic statistical planning and execution, data transformation as well as all aspects of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics of data.

This position is part time eligible with 80%

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of all data analytic aspects in non-clinical studies and projects, including experimental design, data analytics and data transformation as well as reporting. This comprises the implementation, validation and provision of outputs and analytic tools according to company and regulatory standards.

  • Moreover, you will apply traditional statistical methods and combine them with cutting-edge data science methods in designing, collecting, and analyzing data from research and development.

  • Furthermore, you will apply your data science expertise to generate insights that make a difference for our patients by developing methodologically sound, pragmatic solutions and presenting compelling data stories.

  • You will collaborate closely with scientists and experts from various disciplines.

  • In addition, you will challenge yourself and enhance your business knowledge as well as your scientific expertise in a global environment.

  • You will be an active part of a global biostatistics and data sciences organization that covers all statistical aspects within the complete human pharma product life cycle.

Additional tasks and responsibility of a principal position

  • As a Principal Statistician, you will lead and oversee the planning and execution of all data analytic aspects in complex non-clinical studies and projects as well as provide strategic input and directions.

  • With your profound expertise, you will lead and guide other colleagues, internal and external partners on statistics and data science related tasks.

Principal Educational Requirements

  • Master of Science (MSc) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) from an accredited institution in Statistics or Mathematics or related field (Psychology, Data Science, Finance, etc.).

  • At least five (5) years of experience as a statistician or data scientist.

  • Working experience might be compensated by broad and deep topic-specific knowledge, e.g. with respect to statistical methodology.

  • Statistical experience ideally gained in an international context and in different companies/academic institutions.

  • Ideally, additional qualification and experience in a leadership role.

  • Ability to supervise scientific/technical work.

  • Knowledge of competitor and agency strategies and/or in-depth knowledge regarding statistical approaches developed and implemented by other companies or academia in a global context.

  • In-depth knowledge of own area within BDS and related interfaces within and outside BDS.

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical methodology and clinical development.

  • Proficient in the use of software languages to implement statistical concepts.

  • Mindful of local, global, internal and external cultures to ensure that messages are received positively and effectively.

  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings required.

  • Evidence of strong teamwork, ideally also in global and remote context.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally (e.g., CROs, experts, management).

  • Ability to pro-actively identify issues and solutions and to interact with internal and external bodies on statistical topics.

  • Language skills: English: fluent (Read/Write/Speak).

  • Know, understand, and implement:

  • International regulations and guidelines for good clinical and statistical practice from all ICH regions

  • The various international guidelines on clinical development, data standardization, and

  • BI processes and SOPs that govern clinical development in particular with respect to strategic areas e.g. Clinical Development Plan)

Compensation
