The Water & Protection business is part of DuPont and is a global leader in products and solutions that protect what matters – people, structures, and the environment. We enable our customers to win through unique capabilities, global scale, and iconic brands including Kevlar®, Nomex®, Tyvek® , Corian®, Styrofoam™ and FILMTEC™.

As part of our Tyvek® growth plan, we are seeking an R&D Senior Scientist/Engineer who will participate in the flash spinning technology development as well as in product development and introduction to market. This hiring initiative represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, empowered, global R&D team that applies a rich understanding of materials, polymer science & engineering, chemistry, and chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineering. We work in a very diverse environment with the mission to develop nonwoven membrane solutions that protect people, property, and critical products and processes from the hazards that threaten them.

In Tyvek® R&D, we deliver new products for new/existing markets, improvements in manufacturing, and/or entirely new technology platforms and assets. Our Research Investigators define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on product and process technology development, based on a strong understanding of fundamental scientific and engineering principles. We are active members of the broader global technology community.

Your Key Primary Responsibilities:

  • Defining, leading, and executing product and process research and development programs.

  • Conducting lab, experimental and modelling work

  • Collaborating in global, cross-functional teams, represented by various technical and non-technical disciplines.

  • Assessing, identifying, and developing new or improved lab and pilot scale capabilities.

  • Partnering with other scientists and engineers to scale processes to commercial production.

  • Partnering with external consultants, vendors, and other entities to efficiently execute programs.

  • Communicating analyses and findings through technical reports and presentations.

  • Actively developing new intellectual property (IP) and managing existing IP estate.

  • Understanding the regulatory and competitive landscape, with good comprehension of relevant IP.

  • This job may require travel up to 25% of work time.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines

  • Preferred: Knowledge in the areas of transport phenomena (mass and heat), fluid dynamics, polymer characterization, polymer processing, polymer physics, thermodynamics, and/or electrostatics

  • Previous professional experience is a plus.
