Magnolia River Services Traveling Skilled Laborer in Richmond, Virginia

Description

SurView Field Services, a subsidiary of Magnolia River, has an exciting new opportunity for a Traveling Skilled Laborer to join our team. This Traveling Skilled Laborer will perform manual labor in the construction, repair, and maintenance of bridge decks, retaining walls, stairways, railings, guard rails, fencing supports, and other elevated structures. Operates and maintains vehicles, equipment, hand tools, and power tools used for bridge construction, repair, and maintenance.

Considerations:

  • Ability to travel and work at various job sites throughout the East Coast for various durations approximately 90% of the year.

  • Ability to work from varying heights in a two-person bucket lift with a weight capacity of 550 lbs., including all equipment to reach bridge decks and elevated surfaces.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Duties and Responsibilities of Traveling Skilled Laborer:

  • Understand and communicate project goals and timelines.

  • Gain proficiency in understanding construction plans and specifications.

  • Place, remove or maintain piping underneath bridges.

  • Work with and encourage team productivity to meet or exceed scheduling goals.

  • Learn and follow company and industry safety rules and regulations to ensure onsite safety.

  • Work with Superintendents, Foremen, and co-workers to learn new tasks

  • Operate bridge access equipment

  • Operate bridge utility systems

  • Ensure and inspect quality of work.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of Traveling Skilled Laborer:

  • Proficient with Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

  • Basic math skills to assist with measurements and computations.

  • Ability to interpret and implement company mandated safety policies.

  • Ability to manage, plan, schedule, and undertake work safely, independently, and professionally.

  • Ability to read and interpret maps, plans and specifications and to compare them with various aspects of progress, to detect errors.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, clients, property owners.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to remain calm, focused and effective in pressure situations.

  • Ability to take and pass Operator Qualification (OQ) covered tasks if needed.

  • Ability to travel and work at various job sites throughout the United States for various durations approximately 90% of the year.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

  • Completion of a vocational program is preferred.

Physical Demands :

This position performs duties out-of-doors in changing environments, exposure to adverse weather. and traversing rugged conditions.

  • Extensive physical exertion, such as bending and twisting, lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, and/or carrying equipment of materials as needed.

  • May require standing for long periods of time

  • Work from varying heights and, at times, over water.

  • Drive company vehicles to transport materials and/or equipment.

  • Lift items over 50 pounds, with or without the use of mechanical aids.

  • Use of precision or semi-precision tools.
