When you join us as a Field Inspector, you will help support a national effort that implements and preforms design and construction of infrastructure improvements to provide accessibility to Amtrak’s intercity rail support system. In this role you will be responsible for providing on-site construction monitoring of several concurrent construction contracts from mobilization through final acceptance of contractors work and contract closeout.

The Field Inspector is the primary on-site representative for the Contracting Official’s Technical Representative / Resident Engineer (COTR/RE). You’ll be responsible for monitoring the contractors performance of the work, preparing reports and other documentation of the contractor’s work, and providing technical advice to the COTR/RE. The Field Inspector will work directly with the COTR/RE on projects throughout the continental U.S. working on-site approximately 80% of the time. Off-site work will make up approximately 20% of your working time. This role will require travel of one- or two-week duration typically. The final candidate could be located in a variety of areas including: Richmond, Virginia, Columbus, Ohio, Bingham Farms, Michigan, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Baltimore, Maryland, Chicago, Illinois and Morristown, New Jersey.

As a key member of the team, you’ll be responsible for encouraging and supporting a culture of safety on all projects assuring that the work is executed in accordance with the contract as well as good engineering and construction practices. The successful candidate will be able to verify the contractors work is in conformance with the applicable contract drawings and specifications and preform on-site quality oversight inspections of the contractors’ work. You will be asked to provide various written daily inspection reports that document on-site activitiesand document deviations from the contract requirements or any performance or technical deficiencies by the contractor. Additionally, you will prepare Accessibility Survey Assessment System (ASAS) forms as work is completed to document compliancy with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Additional responsibilities in this role will include:

• Assisting with post-construction assessments of the work to verify compliance with the contract and the ADA.

• Retaining all project reports and documentation in the Unifier document control system.

• Participating in weekly contract progress meetings.

• Inspecting the contractor’s performance of warranty work during the contract’s warranty period.

• Providing on-site support to the COTR/RE and assisting with various activities.

• Minimum of 6-8 years’ experience as a field inspector providing construction oversite and inspection experience on site development or transportation projects.

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

• Willingness and ability to travel to project locations in the continental U.S. approximately 80% of working time.

• Possess a valid driving license.

• Strong communication skills. Ideally, you’ll also have:

• Associate’s Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Engineering.
