Durable Medical Equipment Spec - Physician Office - St Francis Medical Center - Richmond, VA
Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Responsible for daily operations for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) supplies, patient fitting and insurance pre-authorization and waivers. DME Coordinator is responsible for timely and accurate communication with insurance companies, patients and staff regarding DME prescribed by the provider.
Employment Qualifications
Organized
Thorough knowledge of Excel
Thorough knowledge of EHR
Excellent follow up with patients and insurance companies.
Accurate keyboarding
Knowledge of basic office equipment, fax, phone, scanner, copier
Essential Job Functions
Contact insurance companies to confirm DME authorization and patient co-pays.
Knowledgeable regarding benefit details from Insurance companies
Use most efficient manner available to obtain DME benefits: phone or portal.
Communicate with patient regarding coverage and patient responsibility.
Document in the EMR all contact regarding DME to include in, waivers, etc.
Maintain internal document for DME Check form.
Electronically communicate patient information to insurance companies
Schedule patients for a DME item within the EMR
Reviewing the DME schedule for all proper documents and authorizations
Explaining to the MA/PA and the physician why information is needed to complete any of the above
Knowledgeable and/or willing to learn the rules and regulations for paperwork and dispensing DME in a timely manner.
Checking chart notes for other billable diagnosis codes
Obtain authorizations for all DME, if needed
Maintain Excel DME tracking sheet.
Ordering, stocking and inventory of supplies
Other job tasks as requested.
Physical Requirements
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
Able to bend to assist patients with proper fitting of equipment.
Use of headset with phone
Required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
Adherence to hospital emergency policies and procedures
May require traveling to other locations.
Participates in required activities to meet requirements for competency, training, and evaluations.
