DIRECTOR CENTRAL STERILE PROCESSING | ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL
Responsible for directing the Central Sterile departments for Bon Secours Richmond Health System, its subsidiaries and related parties in accordance with corporate and departmental policy and procedures. Responsible for managerial supervision of all Bon Secours Richmond Health System Central Sterile personnel, assuring high standards of processing of instruments, equipment and supplies, utilizing Infection Control guidelines, AORN standards, JCAHO, and IAHCSMM (International Association of Hospital Central Service and Materials Management). Analyzes processes to provide safe and cost effective sterilization methods. Assumes financial accountability for capital and operating budgets. Establishes departmental quality goals and objectives, and develops and implements Bon Secours Richmond standardized departmental policies and procedures. develops programs for all staff to have CS certification. Works through subordinate supervisors to accomplish duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Manages, directs and coordinates the operation of Central Sterile assuring maximum utilization of available resources.
Develops overall staffing patterns for Central Sterile.
Selects, evaluates and disciplines departmental personnel.
Responsible for efficient interdepartmental and intradepartmental communications.
Develops various departmental reports as requested
Assures that the standards of operation of the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies, such as the State Department of Health, JCAHO, DEQ and others.
Develops and implements departmental performance improvement activities, provides orientation to all new personnel and required training to all staff on an ongoing basis working with Nurse Educator.
Directs the overall activities of all Bon Secours Richmond Central Sterile departments. Submits and monitors the departmental budget.
Ensures high quality services by working with clinicians and physicians.
Investigates and studies trends and developments in Central Sterile practices and techniques and develops new procedures to reflect applicable advances in the field.
Evaluates and makes recommendations for purchase of operating room instrumentation, Central Sterile equipment and instrumentation in conjunction with clinicians and physicians’ input.
Prepares project scope, financial forecast, volume projections and capital expenses for any new project.
Serves as an administrative resource person for specific projects and demographic data necessary to prepare CONs, special projects, etc.
Establishes departmental objectives and annual budget in collaboration with physicians, the Vice President, and Fiscal Services staff. Reviews objectives monthly to ensure attainment and justifies expenditures. Prepares capital budget requests following hospital policy per acquisition.
Provides guidance and assistance to staff with technical problems when necessary.
Instruct Central Sterile employees in new techniques. Continually works to upgrade skills of all Central Sterile staff to CRCST.
Works with managers and coordinators and other members of the health care team, helps evaluate, modify and implement changes to surgical procedural trays.
II. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must three years of Direct Central Sterile working experience.
Must have CRCST certification.
Candidate must 5 years current Central Sterile managerial experience.
Must have working knowledge of AORN standards, OSHA guidelines, JCAHO, IAHCSMM, and regulatory agencies.
Candidate must Extensive knowledge of aseptic technique, sterilization processes, regulatory agency guidelines, and technical knowledge of Surgical instrumentation and Sterilization equipment and Supplies Broad Based and Extensive Technical knowledge of Surgical instrumentation and OR Case Cart Processing.
Extensive Technical knowledge of Computer instrumentation tracking, Surgical Scheduling And instrument bar coding Processing.
Strong analytical ability required for solving complex problems using basic technical and statistical principles. Standard methods, guides and procedures are generally followed in resolution of such problems.
Candidate must has knowledge of operational and capitol budgeting.
Must be able to work with and assume financial accountable for the Operating Room budget as related to Surgical Instrumentation purchases and Instrument repairs.
Excellent communicative, negotiating and customer service skills are essential.
Must have demonstrated ability to bring diverse constituencies to common agreement.
