Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide knowledge, expertise, input, training, and consultative support for a discipline or process required for facility commissioning and startup. You will participate in work planning and packaging, turnover coordination, material management and quantities, quality control, and environmental safety and health. You will be an essential resource for specialized technical advice.

Full-Time In Office: This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. #LI-EH1

Major Responsibilities:

General

  • Ensures support of basic Startup Specialist duties of installation configuration validation and work package development

  • Provides technical direction to craft completing commissioning and startup (CSU) activities, subcontractor field support, field Inspections, completing ITRs for CSU activities, and quantity tracking

Work Planning & Packaging

  • Liaises with Quality, Engineering, and Project Management as required to ensure compliance with contract requirements

  • Coordinates the preparation of administrative, component and system test procedures and maintenance and/or operating procedures

  • Prepares condition reports and non-conformance reports to document system/component deficiencies

  • Builds schedules and assists with planning of CSU execution activities including sequence and resource requirements for assigned areas of responsibility

  • Plans, guides, or prepares project administrative and technical documents as required for startup, maintenance, operation, or testing

  • Prepares Startup Work Packages and Test Work Packages for assigned areas of responsibility

Turnover Coordination

  • Participates in Construction to CSU turnover walkdowns for assign areas of responsibility

  • Liaises with the Field Engineer as required to support component/system turnover

Material Mgmt. & Quantities

  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases and prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment

  • Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for CSU using procurement systems or other database programs as required

Quality Control

  • Reviews project design data to ensure completeness to extent required to support CSU activities

  • Performs walkdowns to validate that the system configuration is in accordance with the design

  • Performs and/or monitors testing of equipment to assure conformance with specifications and compliance with test procedures, that work methods are undertaken safely and activities are supported to meet schedule and cost

  • Ensures compliance with contract requirements

ES&H

  • Identifies and elevates ES&H issues in the field and is a visible 'walk the talk' leader in good ES&H practices

Education and Experience Requirements:

Level 1

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Level 2

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)

  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact closely and frequently with engineering, client management, operations and maintenance personnel while maintaining necessary levels of commercial awareness.

  • Previous experience with requirements analysis

  • Must be able to walk at least 3 miles per day over uneven ground and be able to climb stair towers 75’ in height at least 6 times per day to access project equipment.
