Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

Plans, writes, edits, proofreads, and coordinates the production of moderate to complex technical documents and presentations with accuracy, consistency, professional quality, and conformance to appropriate style guide. Complexity is determined by technical terminology, length, scope, production methods, and client direction.

Full-Time Telework: Full-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers full-time telework in accordance with current business requirements and works a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off. This position requires periodic travel to the Richland, Washington project office.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, writes, edits, proofreads, and coordinates the production of simple to moderately complex technical documents, procedures and other print and electronic media​.

  • Plans format of documents, organizes content, writes/edits text, and provides instructions for final reproduction​.

  • May collaborate with authors, subject matter experts, and professional staff while preparing a full range of technical documents​.

  • Reviews document requirements with customers and provides guidance for successful and timely product completion​.

  • May recommend and coordinate document formatting, form development, graphic design, reprographics, and document processing support​.

  • Edits draft documents to industry and government standards while conforming to appropriate style guide and other document-related procedures​.

  • Ensures that material is structured and formatted logically and resolves inconsistencies​.

  • Works with authors to resolve editorial and/or content issues​.

  • Monitors job progress and alerts responsible supervisor when schedules appear to be in jeopardy​.

  • Maintains electronic file management and configuration control​.

  • May make recommendations for work process improvements, procedures, and practices​.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience​.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)

  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship .

  • Professional customer service skills.

  • Capable of functioning professionally and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Flexible to respond to urgent project requests and/or changing priorities.

  • Able to work overtime on short notice, as needed.

  • Proficient with standard document formatting/editing/production software, including electronic comment incorporation, importing graphic files, formatting tables, and applying templates.

  • Able to write, review, format, and edit simple to complex documents while conforming to appropriate style guide and other document related guides and procedures.

  • Able to identify and apply appropriate level of edit based on considerations such as customer expectation, audience, visibility, turn-around time, and project/corporate standards.

  • Able to act as a lead writer/editor for a full range of technical documentation, large, multifunctional, high-profile document assignments, and other publication products while interfacing with authors, subject matter experts, publications staff, and document control staff.

  • Knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, composition, style, and relevant technical discipline vocabulary.

  • Familiar with electronic content management system (ECMS).

  • Familiar with research methods (such as reference verification, etc.) to assist with document production.

  • Understanding of trademark, copyright, and corporate identity standards and guidelines.
