Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is looking for a Procedure Writer Field to support the Procedures group. The individual is responsible for providing support and coordination in the preparation, development and writing of new or revised procedures or procedures for technical systems within the framework of the functional field areas or division assigned. Drafts/revises operating and maintenance procedures, descriptive manuals, data sheets, sketches, and other documents to enable engineers, operators, technicians, and other personnel to manage, operate and repair process systems and equipment safely and correctly.

Other duties may include:

  • Under minimal supervision, research, organizes, writes, edits, and produces data for use in a wide variety of complex publications requiring in-depth knowledge and understanding of the subject matter and allied fields.

  • Determines the need for and designs all aspects of documentation projects of the broadest scope and highest technical complexity.

  • Routinely works on projects involving complex engineering, scientific or technological concepts, and represents these projects and project areas to senior management.

  • Recommends overall organization, layout, format, and publication methods for procedure requests in accordance with writer procedures and standards.

  • Develops department editing standards and styles.

  • Obtains data from review of documentation, drawings, schematics and reports, consultation with field personnel and from hands-on experience.

  • Ensures procedures are developed, reviewed, approved, and distributed to appropriate personnel in accordance with the established approval process cycle.

  • Ensures that documents such as vendor manuals, diagrams, charts, blueprints, and standards are reviewed and accurately integrated into procedures, may include technical and engineering documents.

  • Conducts physical walk-down of the system or facility location when appropriate.

  • Routes and tracks procedures through all stages of the process cycle utilizing automated database and document tracking and retrieval systems.

  • Expedites critical path procedures.

  • Assembles procedure developmental information for each new procedure into the electronic workflow including checklists, review comments, approvals, associated vendor manuals and other materials as required.

  • Maintains procedure change information in the electronic workflow including a change summary, review comments, approvals, checklists, and other materials as required.

  • Conducts and/or oversees regular and periodic reviews of existing procedures according to established site guidelines, in response to organizational, technical, or administrative changes, or at management direction.

  • Performs reviews of other peer or subordinate procedure writer's output, prior to formal review process, to ensure that procedures are accurate, reflect all necessary comments and complies with the generally accepted site procedure development practices, conventions, and formats.

  • May perform manager reviews (e.g., style/standards, USQ GCX-2) and/or act on behalf of management when delegated.

  • Represents the organization to internal groups and provide development-specific information to requesters.

  • May perform impact assessments of design or authorization basis modifications.

  • May assume lead role for special assignments or special projects of short to mid-range duration.

  • Provides work leadership for lower-level employees.

Required Qualifications

Grade 18:

  • Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree in Technical Procedure Writing, Engineering, Nuclear Technology (e.g., Operations, Industrial Hygiene, Radiological Controls) or other related discipline and 8 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and years' experience.

Grade 19:

  • Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree in Technical Procedure Writing, Engineering, Nuclear Technology (e.g., Operations, Industrial Hygiene, Radiological Controls) or other related discipline and 9 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and years' experience.

  • Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Desired Qualifications

  • Basic skills in MS Office Suite products (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)

  • Familiar with Conduct of Operations principles

  • Experience with electronic workflows, records databases, procedure management systems, SharePoint and Rapid web pages.

  • Have a Procedure Professional Association (PPA) certification.

  • Experience with Department of Energy nuclear sites

Compensation & Benefits

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Minimum: $104,175

Hiring Range Maximum: $144,325
