Overview

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Materials Sciences group, you will join a talented, multi-investigator team performing experimental and computational research to design electrochemical processes as related to energy storage, and separation of critical materials. You will be involved in cutting edge research program focused on developing electrochemical processes, tools and techniques for aqueous batteries and recovery of critical materials. You will also perform characterization of materials using multiple spectroscopic and microscopic tools, with a particular emphasis on correlating structure-properties with electrochemical processing. This work will utilize the state-of-the-art material characterization capabilities at PNNL.

Responsibilities

• Electrochemical processing and testing of materials for various applications.

• Development of in-situ and ex-situ tools for spectroscopic and microscopic characterization of materials.

• Correlating synthesis, structure, and electrochemical properties through multimodal analysis.

• Supporting technical leadership with organized results for progress reports and lead manuscript writing.

• Collaborating and solving technical problems with a diverse team.

• Presenting research at conferences and project meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, or a related field.

• Expertise in aqueous and non-aqueous electrochemical processes demonstrated through publications.

• Proficiency in various electrochemical techniques such as those applicable in aqueous batteries, electrowinning, and electrochemical recovery of materials.

• Experience with development of in-situ characterization techniques including spectroscopic or microscopic tools.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrated through publications and presentations.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
