The Opportunity:

The Executive Director of Financial Reporting and SEC Compliance is responsible for leading and managing the external financial reporting process, ensuring compliance with SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) regulations, and supporting internal stakeholders with financial information. This role requires a highly skilled professional with experience in financial reporting, technical accounting, and strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations. The Executive Director will play a critical role in preparing accurate financial statements, managing audits, and ensuring the company’s compliance with all SEC/GAAP regulatory reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and filing of SEC Form 10-Q/Ks in compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC rules, regulations, and financial disclosure requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.

  • Prepare and review financial statements, footnote disclosures, and MD&A (Management's Discussion and Analysis) sections for quarterly and annual reports.

  • Oversee the XBRL tagging process and review of documents for SEC filings.

  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of the company's monthly consolidated financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

  • Assist in the preparation and communication of financial information to senior management, board of directors, and investors.

  • Ensure proper execution of SOX internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external auditors to ensure the accuracy of financial information and disclosures.

  • Develop and manage a detailed financial reporting calendar in coordination with internal constituents to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including finance, tax, legal, investor relations, and external auditors, to manage the financial reporting process.

  • Monitor developments in accounting standards and SEC regulations and advise on implications for the company.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of accounting and finance professionals. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and continuous improvement.

  • Participate in strategic projects, as necessary.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations, including for share-based compensation, earnings per share, segment reporting, debt and equity transactions, non-GAAP reporting, lease accounting, and ESG, amongst other topics as relevant.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in SEC reporting, financial reporting, and technical accounting for a public company (government contracting industry experience preferred.)

  • Active CPA license required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MS Office, and significant experience working in financial reporting and consolidation systems (Costpoint, Oracle FCCS, Workiva, etc.)

  • Experience with XBRL tagging and SEC filing software.

  • Expert knowledge of SEC rules and requirements, including Non-GAAP reporting

  • Strong technical accounting skills, including experience with complex accounting issues.

  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentoring and developing staff.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Detail-oriented with analytic comprehension

  • High level of integrity and appropriate handling of confidential information at all times

*This position requires the employee to work on average 3 days a week in the Reston, VA office with a hybrid, flexible arrangement.*

Desired:

  • Prior Big 4 experience

  • Federal Government contracting environment experience strongly preferred

  • An advanced degree (MBA or Master’s in Accounting)

Pay Range : There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$131,900 - $290,100
