General Purpose
Operate shuttles to move trailers from building to building, staging area, and from various loading dock doors. Apply knowledge of commercial driving regulations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and DFA rules, regulations, and policies adhering to all safety practices
Receive instructions via radio and perform trailer shuttling to accommodate logistical needs
Perform daily maintenance checks of shuttle truck and report any malfunctions to the appropriate person
Document all trailer moves into the appropriate system or daily move sheet; submit sheet to appropriate person upon the completion of the shift
Fuel the yard truck as needed
Couple and uncouple tractor trailer units
Connect and disconnect brake lines as needed
Perform safety check inspection of the trailer according to DOT regulations
Secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with local staff; report any problems to the supervisor
Attend all driver workshops and training sessions
Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals

Requirements
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience driving or shuttling tractor trailers preferred
Must meet minimum age requirements
Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records
Must meet all DOT requirements
Certification and/or License – driver’s license or operator’s permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements
Able to perform the duties of this role in all weather conditions
Able to communicate effectively
Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
Able to follow directions and meet deadlines
Able to be punctual
Able to work in a fast-paced environment
Good record keeping skills
Basic math skills
Must be able to read, write and speak English
