The key responsibilities of the Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (CPRSS)or Intern Peer Recovery Support Specialist (IPRSS) assigned to the New Beginnings Justice Involved Program include:

Peer-Based Support

  • Provide empathetic, non-judgmental support to justice-involved program participants.
  • Build trust and rapport to foster a supportive recovery environment.

Goal Setting and Recovery Planning

  • Assist participants in identifying personal recovery and reintegration goals.
  • Develop individualized recovery plans that align with participants needs and aspirations.

Inspiration Through Lived Experience

  • Share personal experiences of recovery to inspire hope and demonstrate the possibility of change and success.
  • Use your journey to empower participants to overcome challenges.

Group Facilitation

  • Lead or co-facilitate recovery-focused groups, workshops, or peer meetings, tailored to the needs of justice-involved individuals.
  • Foster open discussions and peer-to-peer support.

Resource Navigation

  • Connect participants with community resources, including housing, employment, healthcare, and legal assistance.
  • Provide information and referrals to services that support recovery and reintegration.

Advocacy

  • Advocate for participants needs and rights within the program and the community.
  • Support participants in developing self-advocacy skills.

Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams

  • Work closely with case managers, program staff, and external agencies to coordinate comprehensive support services.
  • Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss participant progress and needs.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of participant interactions and services provided.
  • Prepare reports as required by the program or funding sources.

Participant Empowerment

  • Promote self-sufficiency, confidence, and resilience among participants.
  • Encourage participants to take an active role in their recovery and reintegration process.

Adherence to Ethical Standards

  • Uphold professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate respect and cultural competence in all interactions with participants and team members.

This role is integral to the success of the New Beginnings Justice Involved Program, focusing on empowering justice-involved individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve sustainable recovery.
