WSP USA Environmental Planner / Biologist in Reno, Nevada

Your Impact

  • The position is generally 30% field work and 70% office work on a variety of projects, including commercial, industrial, state and federal sites.

  • Biology field activities may include plant and wildlife identification, threatened and endangered species surveys, wetland surveys, native plant surveys etc. Will utilize GPS, tablet, compass, quad maps and/or aerial photographs.

  • Office work involve researching literature and regulatory requirements; preparing reports, maps and charts; and performing routine calculations.

  • Interprets data and report writing.

  • Prepares field reports, internal correspondence, client interaction, and prepare sections of formal reports.

  • Follows company safety standards and site safety standards in accordance with WSP policy.

  • Will travel to project sites throughout Nevada and the western US. Approximately 30% overnight travel.

  • Environmental field activities may include soil and groundwater sampling, site investigations, and remediation activities.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related scientific discipline or technical field.

  • 1-3 years of related experience with vegetation, wildlife and/or T&E field surveys.

  • Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Western US fauna and/or flora knowledge and experience is preferred.

  • Skilled at basic or standard field procedures and techniques.

  • Strong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office.

  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment.

  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours as required. May include weekend work.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in Nevada, Utah and surrounding states. Approximatly30% overnight travel.

  • Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bureau of Land Management and/or US Forest Service project experience.

  • Current USFWS permits or ability to be permitted for T&E species protocol surveys

  • NEPA knowledge and experience.

  • Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act threatened and endangered species survey experience

  • Section 404 of the Clean Water Act delineating/permitting experience.

  • GIS and or AutoCAD experience

Physical Demands

  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions.

  • Ability to hike, lift equipment and willingness to work extended hours (10+ hour days), as needed.
