Responsibilities
Enterprise Architecture (EA) is the interconnected domains of business, information, application, infrastructure, and security architectures that collectively implement the business capabilities required to accomplish business goals. Ascension Technologies Enterprise Architecture’s vision is to:

Ascension Technologies is seeking a Sr. Director - Enterprise Architecture to join the Enterprise Architecture team as the Lead for Macro Architecture, reporting to the AVP, Head of Architecture within Ascension Technologies. The successful candidate will direct the Macro architecture team, partner with the business and other Ascension Technologies teams, bringing broad healthcare experience, strong architecture and technology knowledge, thought leadership and ability to deliver in a complex healthcare organization possessing a highly complex and diverse technology ecosystem.
Role Summary:
The candidate will lead Enterprise Architecture (and the macro architecture team) focus across multiple business (verticals) and technology service (horizontals), establishing the Domain Vision and Strategies.
This includes driving the holistic multi cloud strategy, Micro Services strategy, AI Governance strategy and oversight for Enterprise Architecture Significant Initiatives.
The candidate will provide Executive Level Consulting and Guidance to Ascension senior leadership leveraging value-added scientifically based and technologically sound business and technology based insights and experience.
The candidate will also seek to modernize technology platforms and systems, simplify application inventory to standardize technology solutions as well as reduce the overall technology portfolio based on key performance metrics and other business drivers.
The candidate works closely with Executive Leadership, the broad architecture community and external sources as required to drive tangible outcomes.
Accountabilities:
Provide oversight and leadership regarding strategic direction, activities and resources for assigned departments. Influence direction of assigned new and existing programs and systems.
Engage early as part of strategic planning efforts or when a complex business technology need is first identified.
Help assess the need, employing an enterprise level view, looking through a business-capability lens, leading and documenting key architectural, process, integration and cost considerations.
Create a unified point of view to inform and guide technology investment decision-making and address unnecessary technology sprawl.
Employ a consistent approach, leading the Macro Architecture team in the development of standard architecture reference models, capturing strategic goals and objectives, value drivers, KPIs, metrics, business capabilities and other foundational components that can enable Ascension strategic imperatives.
Perform architectural gap analysis, as part of capturing the current (‘as-is’) and target (‘to-be’) architectures.
Leverage detailed Points of View (POV), employing a domain centric collaborative approach, providing architectural perspective and technology pattern recommendations for Enterprise Architecture Significant initiatives and other significant bodies of work as needed.
Supports the creation of strategic roadmaps that sequence technology initiatives based on business priorities and technical dependencies, aligning to the overall enterprise strategy.
Provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) for Architecture Review Board (ARB) Governance and Standards.

Fundamental Skills & Abilities:
Strong Cloud, Micro Services, APIs, Data and AI strategy skills.
Ability to lead C-level conversations with client stakeholders to ensure technology solutions that align with customer needs, while also leveraging existing enterprise capabilities and adhering to Key Enterprise Architecture Principles (KAPs).
Ability to be hands on as well as direct the team to drive time to value, clear business outcomes and value.
Strong ‘presentation, communication and critical thinking skills.
Ability to act as a thought leader in understanding consumer needs, experience and business objective to champion end to end solutions on an enterprise scale and drive digital transformation.
Strong understanding of technology platforms and modern technologies/approaches to drive technology that is innovative, competitive, secure and resilient.
Ability to quickly evaluate options, unlock enterprise challenges, make technology recommendations, and recommend solutions within a diverse technology environment with multiple stakeholders inside customers’ environments.
Ability to communicate broad business initiatives and translate them into measurable objectives and concrete goals for other architects.
Familiarity with working in an product model and agile development based environmentComfortable working with ambiguity and gray spaces.
Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, conflict management, prioritization and relationship management skills.
Ability to manage multiple work commitments, producing high quality work products under pressure and within deadlines.
Requirements
Education:
- High School diploma equivalency with 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
Additional Preferences
Ten plus years in information technology and architecture with increasing responsibility.
Three plus years in people management and architecture leadership.
Healthcare IT experience is preferred.
Industry Cloud and AI certifications preferred.
Product model and Agile experience preferred (at scale).
Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and architecture modeling tools (e.g. Abacus, IBIS, Orbus iServer, MEGA, LeanIX, etc.) preferred.
